yeon seo is probably the best female protagonist i've seen in my many years of watching asian dramas. her character is just so well written. she was never a pushover, nor did she become soft after falling in love like so many others are written. she always had a level head no matter what was thrown at her and she never forgave anyone for unforgivable acts. i always find myself annoyed with female leads at one point or another but this truly wasn't the case this time. the actress really did this character justice i love it.
i'm at the point of skipping all yongjie/xingsi scenes bc they're literally appalling like who tf approved this…
idk any of this writer's previous works so i have nothing to base this off of but its as if they were high when they wrote this. its like they took a hat and started randomly pulling out bl tropes that have worked in other stories, but just made those tropes 10x worse. i've never been into rape as a plot moving device, but it can absolutely work in a story if done correctly. i have yet to see it be handled correctly in this series. but we still have many eps to go so maybe i'll be surprised.

i'm hoping by some miracle that the writer is just trying to bamboozle us and the story is about to do a full 180 and xingsi ends up never reciprocating yongie's feelings and yongjie ends up in therapy.
i'm at the point of skipping all yongjie/xingsi scenes bc they're literally appalling like who tf approved this script. every single scene with them is just handled so undeniably terribly. wtf kind of message is the writer trying to send like i'm literally so confused??? there is literally no justification for them to end up together. not a single redeeming quality in their coupling. literally no possible way for the audience to root for them. you simply cannot convince me the writer expects us to actually believe in their "love" story. its insulting. and not only them but the family dynamic as a whole is just so utterly f*cked. the mom approving her son's actions??? like huh??? i'm hanging on to this series by a thread solely because teng teng is adorable and thats literally the only reason.
tum/tiffy really is the superior ship they're so adorable. tum helps her with skincare, makeup, and sewing, meanwhile tiffy fixes his car. i love their dynamic.
i am super curious to see how they plan to make fu yong jie even remotely likable. a med student who attacks people? and then the parents (especially the dad) glazing over it like it was nothing when the dude literally admitted that he punched someone??? this goes beyond simple interpersonal issues or being a bit antisocial but they acted like it wasn't that serious??? i know mental health is a taboo subject in asia but dude needs to be in therapy like asap. so how tf are the writers planning to redeem this character? and how do they expect us to believe that his brother will actually fall in love with someone who attacked his friend?? weirdo behavior. not rooting for this cp at all. the absurdity of teng teng and xiao cheng's situation on the other hand isn't entirely unbearable. cliché and overdone and a very harmful narrative but what else was i expecting when i read the synopsis.
i always thought it was weird that zol was writing a romance novel about her brother. if my sister did that to…
i mean she has the right to be upset of course bc she must have put a lot of time and effort into her writing but i think she should also understand where zon is coming from.
i always thought it was weird that zol was writing a romance novel about her brother. if my sister did that to me and still refused to delete it after i asked her to, i probably would’ve deleted it myself too tbh. i don’t get how she doesn’t see that she’s lowkey in the wrong here. yeah its a fic but i still would have found that so creepy and such an invasion of privacy.
severely underwhelming. tbh i was just forcing myself to get through every ep bc i was simply that bored. a bunch of side ships that were barely explored or fully fleshed out. this season was just utterly, completely boring. thats really the only word i can think to describe it. it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't anything special. felt like i had watched this exact script done 100x over and 100x times better in several other series.
That I totally disagree. It was because his friends told him that very morning that Oh was missing classes and…
oh yeah no this isn't what i think it's just one of my theories of what could possibly be goin through oh's mind to make him react like he did. i def understand teh's thought process behind things, but i can also understand why oh might feel like a charity case. we the audience know why teh did what he did and his feelings behind it, but oh doesn't, so i don't fault him for being a bit upset about it. they haven't had a proper conversation outside of ig stories, so oh doesn't know what to think. he even quoted the "being more of a hinderance than help" idiom, so we kinda got a glimpse into what he's feeling, and i interpreted it as that he wanted to earn this on his own, which is understandable. he also clearly feels bad about teh kinda giving up his dream for him (and honestly i think he's more bothered by this rather than angry really but who knows). i'm not mad at either character here bc both are very realistic portrayals of emotions in such a situation. imo.
its not reading, if you are straight guy, you look at women's boobs first thing, or at least that's what I have…
what i meant by reading into things is that since she's wearing the bra with purple flowers, that means he has to color in the flower that she drew purple. yeah he could've very well taken a glance at her chest and noticed the bra again, but that doesn't translate into him knowing that he's supposed to pick the purple pencil. like i said, many people (men in particular) don't notice little things like that. i know i wouldn't have. and i understand her reaction, but i don't think it was warranted for that situation in particular. but then again she was definitely embarrassed by it all and her feelings had been building up for a while now (with him not sticking to their dates, not waking up at 4am with her but with oh instead), so i see where she's coming from.
also interesting how the other idiom highlighted in the practice book that teh made for oh was "easy pickings" and how it relates to him feeling like he didn't truly earn that spot in uni. nothing in oh's character (as we the audience have seen it thus far) would suggest that he'd be ok with teh giving up his spot for him, so i really understand his reaction to the news at the end of the ep. back to the 1st ep when teh told oh that he'd never pass the exam bc his practice test score was so low, it could be seen as though teh still thinks that oh couldn't possibly pass the entrance exam on his own and basically thinks less of him so here's teh to the rescue once again (regardless of whether teh meant his words or not at the time). i think it'd be interesting to see both of them going through the exam process bc they can finally be on equal footing, to some extent.
i understand what tarn was trying to do with the purple hibiscus symbolism or whatever to see if he's still paying attention to her, but i feel like even if teh was still in love with her, he might not have caught on to that. many people don't read into things that deeply. i know i definitely would not have thought about the random time when i saw a glimpse of her bra with the purple flowers, so i'm gonna make sure that i pick the purple pencil to color in the flower that she drew for me. and sure she wore the see through shirt so that he could see the bra again, but he got caught the first time and got embarrassed so i would think he would've learned his lesson and not look at her chest anymore. but idk just my thoughts on that particular part.
