was it wrong? yes it was. is there trauma from this kinda of punishment? of course there was. it's not to normalize…
it's not to justify it, i repeatedly said it was wrong. i said i just feel for the mother and can see it from her POV.

i don't get why there's comments that are even trying to defend the mother. i'm an asian, raised in a similar…
was it wrong? yes it was. is there trauma from this kinda of punishment? of course there was. it's not to normalize it, it's to see it from the mother's POV. Not to justify what she did, it's to look at her that at her situation, she gave all she got. Im sorry that traumatize you. forgiveness and therapy is a great tool for me personal. AGAIN, it was wrong but I think I see the hardship of the mother too.

I'm surprised that people are justifying the mother's actions as simply discipline and that it is historically,…
Some people see it as abuse some see it as discipline, this is purely objective depending on everyone's cultural background. I think is okey to agree and disagree on it. You are right there is probably a better way and it was wrong in today's society but That's why the show is called good bad mother. whatever she did has to be bad for it. I really respect her raising her child up on her own. Not only she didnt marry to be dependable on another man. She educated herself on knowledge to make sure she can help with her son's schoolwork. I was raised by a single mom from an area that is like such an environment. My mom did beat me and didn't even have money nor time to feed me when I was younger but i don't hate her for it because i know i wouldnt be where i m today if my mom wasn't a strict mother and she gave her best.

It was also the way the mother prevented him from eating properly to keep him from falling asleep. She starved…
she didnt starve him, she made a big ass dinner for his bday. He just remembered what his mom said when she was mad and hold it against her. I think there is a miss translation too. In Korean, she said dont over eat. She really tried her best in her time and her situation. It's unlikely her son would ever walk out of that little village if she didnt make him study that hard. Yall really got to see how those ppl's life in rural areas of Asia before you put a western POV on this, not saying this is not abusive today. I didn't see ppl getting so pissed at Song Woo Byeok for killing his father. In Singapore, the country is caning people for discipline, again. I don't think anyone is trying to justify the action of caning. I think many just see that the mother's hardship too and do not to put alllll the blame in the world on the mother.

This is strict parenting its not abusing. There is fine line between the two. She didnt make her kid starve.
It does not it make it right. The drama is not trying to normalize this behavior. It's to show character development and how she was a bad mom in the 1 eps. For a single mother trying to raise her children to be something more than herself, she might be doing in the wrong way but she is trying her best.

god youngsoon pissed me off but i guess the story is about her changing into a good mother so we can hope for…
I think people need to look at the cultural and geographic area of this story and stop using a western POV thinking this story is all about pro child abuse. She never Survives her children, there might be a lots in translation. She just said don't overeat cz that will lower his productivity. Which is not not true. She is a single mother in a rural, and with the competitive cultural in Asia, it's very difficult for her son EVER get out of the village without how her mother cared for him. AGAIN not justify the action of her punishment her son with canning for getting into a fight at school is right but in that time era and that area, the better way havent invented or introduced yet. MOST of the elder generation got beat when they grew up. Youngsoon is tryin her BEST, doesn't make her a terrible person at least because her intention wasn't to abuse. It was just tough love and so tough that can't be justified by today's society.

Not saying it's ever right but "beating" your children is pretty normalize in Asia, especially in that time period…
i feel ya on that, like there is a difference between punishment for extremely wrong behavior verse hitting them everyday for no reason.

Loved 1st ep.Felt bad for child Kang ho when he got beaten by his mom.I understand why she is strict but beating…
Not saying it's ever right but "beating" your children is pretty normalize in Asia, especially in that time period and the rural area. Also that's hitting them with a stick is considering a light punishment. That's not even beating. At least when I was in public school, teachers often carried a stick around to hit students with it left and right. The real beating is when grandpa or father kick you with their feet and smack the shit out of you with sometimes like a belt or a clothes hanger etc, that would consider beating. AGAIN NOT saying it was right, but I think from that time period and showing his mom was a strict mother with tough love, that part was necessary as an effect to show and build up the aggression he has toward his mother. YES PLZ DONT BEAT YOUR CHILDREN. I dont hate my parents my whole life for it tho after growing up and understanding the history and cultural background of it.

I'm really amazed by the actors' acting skills and how director narrator the stories. honesty, it's a pretty simple and cheesy story plot, but this show is sooooooooo freaking good even though the plot is simple. Jeon Do Yeon is OG AF, also how is she 50 looking better than everyone? S/O to her, what a queen ^^
