BRIEF BUTTERFLY NEWS!

The Monarch Butterflies have begun their annual 2000mile/3200km migration from Canada to Mexico! Click the pic to see where they are in their journey 🦋

Now onto the movies!

I've included links to my reviews in case you want to know more about these films before watching.  Many of these films contain difficult topics.  Enraging topics. Discouraging topics. Disturbing topics. Women directors don't shy away from the female experience and how tradition, laws, and men in power can make the experience more difficult.  There are a few romances in here, including one I loved because it punctured the childhood connection trope I've come to dislike due to its overuse.

A link to the list with all the films I've watched thus far with women directors if you'd like to see more films by women.

My Bio

I started watching Asian dramas around February 2019.  Eternal Love (TMOPB) was my first drama and my first love.  Several months later I found Goblin and fell in love again, this time with Kdramas.  I’m always searching for another drama that will make me fall in love all over again.

My favorite dramas/films usually contain romance, character development, capable women, compelling storytelling, and strong relationships. I'm an omnivore when it comes to dramas and movies, I'll watch almost anything from any time period.  Zombies and dramas labeled as fluffy are not included in my viewing diet.  Currently, I watch more films than dramas. Every March I have my own Martial Arts Marathon.  October is Monster Mash Marathon month.  Last year was my first Women Directors Marathon.  I watch films and dramas from all of the countries included on MDL, and for now, only on legal sites.  While I watch sad movies and dramas, I prefer happy endings.  I don’t care if it’s boy-girl, boy-boy, or girl-girl I want everyone to live happily ever after.♡♡♡

An addendum to understanding my ratings:  I rate pre-1990's kung fu and kaiju movies on a curve.  They were usually cheaply made for a niche audience.  I also give silent films from the 20's and 30's some leeway as they were breaking new ground in film storytelling and acting.

The dramas and movies that I've rated as 10's were the first in a particular genre that made me fall in love with it.  They were also from early in my drama watching life and would be rated lower now. They may not be perfect, but they hooked me into the Asian drama and movie world, so I left them at 10's.  These reviews were among my first and are a bit clunky.  I left them as they were as well.  7.5 is an average drama/film rating for me.

Eternal Love: https://kisskh.at/profile/TheButterfly/reviews/54085

Goblin:  https://kisskh.at/profile/TheButterfly/reviews/55235

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon:  https://kisskh.at/profile/ThButterfly/review/267935

Godzilla (1954):  https://kisskh.at/profile/TheButterfly/review/145411

My Rating System tongue in cheek---

(1-1.5)  MEGA-LOATHED   This is the ex who friends thought was perfect but makes you ragey and stabby at the mere mention of his name.

(2-2.5)  HATED   This is the ex who makes you feel less stabby, but still ragey at the mention of his name.

(3-3.5)  LOATHED   You can hear his name, but his face makes you ragey.

(4-4.5)  DISLIKED INTENSELY  He looked good in a pair of jeans, but now you just have regrets.

(5-5.5)  DISINTERESTED  You honestly cannot even remember going out with him.

(6-6.5)  LIKED WITH MAJOR RESERVATIONS  He was handsome, smart, and had money, but showed up late for dates and continuously forgot his wallet.

(7-7.5)  LIKED WITH RESERVATIONS   Nice guy, just didn't have the passion you needed for a long-term commitment.

(8-8.5)  REALLY LIKED  This guy was close, maybe too close to his mother, but almost the one.

(9-9.5)  LOVED  You could be happy with him with few regrets.

(10)  FIRST AND FOREVER LOVE IN A DRAMA/FILM GENRE/COUNTRY  All others will be compared to your first, the one that showed you what love was all about, the joy and the heartache. 💕

WATCHLIST EXPLAINED

CW: It stresses me out to try and keep track so I rarely use it.

PTW:  So many dramas, so little time

On Hold: It's not you, it's me

Dropped:  Oh, yeah, it's you, not me

Starting in 2024 I began writing reviews on most everything I watch.  I have found you do not criticize oppa or noona's acting. lol
