For March The Butterfly is celebrating martial arts films.   I'll be having my annual Martial Arts Marathon.  I include movies that use a variety of kicks and hits as well as swords.

🦋MONTHLY BUTTERFLY NEWS🦋

In March, the Monarch butterflies will leave their winter homes in either Mexico or California (USA) and begin their migration northward.  They will have a little lovin' and lay eggs on milkweed plants so that the next generation can take over as their lives sadly expire.

"I made women in wuxia popular way before I played the evil Jade Fox in Crouching Tiger."

(Come Drink with Me-Cheng Pei Pei)

"I know I usually play a bad guy, but I'm actually good in this film, I promise!"

(Kurata Yasuaki and Jet Li in  Fist of Legend)

Oh, he means business now, baby!

(Bruce Lee in Fist of Fury)

"Did you notice my enormous...fan?"

(Ti Lung in Sentimental Swordsman)"Say I fight like a girl, one more time jerk!"

(Angela Mao in HAPKIDO)"Do these pants make my butt look big?  It's okay, that's what I was going for."

(Bolo-Enter the Dragon)"Who said I had mom hair?"

(Hwang Jang Lee)

"Yeah, they're Ginsu knives.  They can cut through a tin can!   I have more in my trunk if you want to buy a set."

(Lo Lieh-Flying Dagger)(Gordon Liu-36th Chamber of Shaolin)
"Did you know you have hair in your mouth?"

(Lo Lieh and Gordon Liu in the White Lotus)"You knew I was wearing a red dress today.  Stop copying me!" "Stop copying me." "Stop that!"  "Stop that!"  "Aaargh!"

(Maggie Cheung and Zhang Zi Yi)"Honey, I don't cook.  I kick butt!"

(Michelle Yeoh in Police Story 3)"What's so hard about landing a motorcycle on a moving train?"

(Dear goodness she is glorious!  The stuntman broke his leg attempting it)"I said I wanted decaf!"

(Donnie Yen in Flash Point)"Heads up!"

(House of Flying Daggers)

"One and two, and one and two..."

My Bio

I started watching Asian dramas around February 2019.  Eternal Love (TMOPB) was my first drama and my first love.  Several months later I found Goblin and fell in love again, this time with Kdramas.  I’m always searching for another drama that will make me fall in love all over again.

My favorite dramas/films usually contain romance and/or friendship, character development, capable women, compelling storytelling, and strong relationships. I'm an omnivore when it comes to dramas and movies, I'll watch almost anything from any time period.  Zombies and dramas labeled as fluffy are not included in my viewing diet.  Currently, I watch more films than dramas. Every March I have my own Martial Arts Marathon.  October is Monster Mash Marathon month.  Last year was my first Women Directors Marathon and I also do a Black and White Films Marathon.  I watch films and dramas from all of the countries included on MDL, and for now, only on legal sites.  While I watch sad movies and dramas, I prefer happy endings.  I don’t care if it’s boy-girl, boy-boy, or girl-girl I want everyone to live happily ever after.♡♡♡

An addendum to understanding my ratings:  I rate pre-1990's kung fu and kaiju movies on a curve.  They were usually cheaply made for a niche audience.  I also give silent films from the 20's and 30's some leeway as they were breaking new ground in film storytelling and acting.

The dramas and movies that I've rated as 10's were the first in a particular genre that made me fall in love with it.  They were also from early in my drama watching life and would be rated lower now. They may not be perfect, but they hooked me into the Asian drama and movie world, so I left them at 10's.  These reviews were among my first and are a bit clunky.  I left them as they were as well.  7.5 is an average drama/film rating for me.

My Rating System tongue in cheek---

(1-1.5)  MEGA-LOATHED   This is the ex who friends thought was perfect but makes you ragey and stabby at the mere mention of his name.

(2-2.5)  HATED   This is the ex who makes you feel less stabby, but still ragey at the mention of his name.

(3-3.5)  LOATHED   You can hear his name, but his face makes you ragey.

(4-4.5)  DISLIKED INTENSELY  He looked good in a pair of jeans, but now you just have regrets.

(5-5.5)  DISINTERESTED  You honestly cannot even remember going out with him.

(6-6.5)  LIKED WITH MAJOR RESERVATIONS  He was handsome, smart, and had money, but showed up late for dates and continuously forgot his wallet.

(7-7.5)  LIKED WITH RESERVATIONS   Nice guy, just didn't have the passion you needed for a long-term commitment.

(8-8.5)  REALLY LIKED  This guy was close, maybe too close to his mother, but almost the one.

(9-9.5)  LOVED  You could be happy with him with few regrets.

(10)  FIRST AND FOREVER LOVE IN A DRAMA/FILM GENRE/COUNTRY  All others will be compared to your first, the one that showed you what love was all about, the joy and the heartache. 💕

WATCHLIST EXPLAINED

CW: It stresses me out to try and keep track so I rarely use it.

PTW:  So many dramas, so little time

On Hold: It's not you, it's me

Dropped:  Oh, yeah, it's you, not me

Starting in 2024 I began writing reviews on most everything I watch.  I have found you do not criticize oppa or noona's acting. lol

You do not have to sit outside in the dark.  If, however, you want to look at the stars, you will find that darkness is necessary.  But the stars neither require nor demand it.
