Jadaone But Make it Gay => Have you not received the memo? This is the whole point of the title itself. How many…
My issue is not that the "making gay" of romcoms, my issue is adapting its most inane formula (that is "profound hugot from self-absorbed middle class characters, who tapped into the class fantasies of mobility and the self-centeredness of its lower middle and middle class target audience) developed by Jadaone and her circle. Which is why I dont care for Jadaone. Now, this becomes problematic when fans like you talk about GSP as if it is the best thing that hapened to the gay liberation movement in the Philippines, and ignoring how millions of other queer lives who cannot identify to the middle class drivel and cisgenderedness of GSP, hinged upon very problematic narcissistic class dynamics of the hugot-Jadaone aesthetic, then perhaps your imagination of queer radical politics is already as limited as your taste. So don't talk to me about being homophobic.
But i wont even go there. Since GSP is still within the elementary realm of representation. So props to them. But later on, they would have to account to and reckon with the much more diverse and complicated queer lives in the neocolony that is the Philippines. And when once they start doing that, I hope fans like you would still be there, enriching the discussion.
But my point it, much of the way Severo tried to radicalize the script is via dialogues. These are all talking heads, putting out queer discourse, and it does not look cute nor compelling in the script. The same way Jadaone heroines mouth life wisdom.
Why should I write a screenplay and why should I compete with the screenwriter just to prove that I know how good scriptwriting works. Geesh! Really, Shonda Rimes? ONLINE MASTER CLASS? Is that the standard? Lol
I believe the rating is too harsh but I agree with some of your points. I never felt compelled to put all my attentions…
Thanks, Baddie for recognizing some of the legit points I raised in my review. In retrospect, a 2-rating might be indeed harsh. But I also think that storytelling is the most important aspect of any show. That being said, the music and the actors are great! Ian, who played Vlad, despite some moments when he tend to eat his words to incoherence, knows the craft well. Paolo, usually one note, has great moments here as well, particularly the "panic" in his eyes after being discovered kissing Vlad, was gold. But
Citing theories does not necessarily make it nuanced and complex, and my God, you're really gauging complexity…
Good for you. But I think this is where we diverge: I don't find the dialogues particularly compelling, so I have this feeling that it is being pushed to me as a viewer. This is my main problem with the series itself, almost everything feels like it hinges on weakly written, mostly unconvincing conversations between the two protagonists.
Citing theories does not necessarily make it nuanced and complex, and my God, you're really gauging complexity…
There are so many ways of looking at the complexity, like for example, close read the text itself. What exactly transpired in the series? How did it unfold? Is it organic, or we just pushed the characters to mouth the plot and their growth instead of actually finding good ways of emplotting those things in script.
Its not that I dont care about those conversations but I wouldnt based what other people is saying to this text to gauge whether it is effective or compelling. I'll go back to the text.
Lol! I smell DDS or Vice Ganda fan! I believe you are fan of ITSAY, creating account just to give praise to ITSAY…
Well if your imagination can only peg me as a DDS or a Vice Ganda fan, then I don't also know how to respond to you. As for all those conjectures about what I have seen and written about based on my history and activity in my profile, Congrats, you've seen right through me! Hope you are happy now. I don't know why you feel the need to respond to my assessment here if you are already decided what I am and that my opinions are not valid because you feel that they reek of crab mentality, without actually responding to some of the very valid points about the thinness of the script's narrative and its propensity to preach rather than let things unfold.
Anyway, why don't you just report me and flag my review as unhelpful so that it wouldn't gain this much of activity.
"Without any layers or nuance[d]" LMAO did we watch the same show? Look, I get that everyone has different tastes,…
Instead of being salty at my review, why don't you post yours here and praised it to high heavens, seeing that your aesthetic judgment is based on social media noise and name- and theory-dropping.
Seriously? Maybe your brain can't handle such story.
Seeing that you don't know me, and have no idea what my brain can and cannot handle, I don't really know how to respond to you. If this is already the most complex cultural text that you consider "difficult" to handle, then I don't think you have any business in telling critiquing screen texts in this site much more telling people what they can and cannot handle.

Citing theories does not necessarily make it nuanced and complex, and my God, you're really gauging complexity on the amount of social media conversations it stirred?! Really?! In this day and age where we are seeing how irrational, pernicious, and violent those conversation can become?!
You are telling me that I'm spewing hate yet end your drivel with "my ass"?!
Sexy sensible Hoon! I didn't want him as a brother, but qs a lover! Such a thirst trap. I hope his next shows will have him baring some flesh hahahaha!
