It's even worse she's comparing her to someone else and criticising her "unladylikeness". The poor child has been in survival mode the moment she left. Like have some grace and compassion.

I understand the mother but can she not see that the child feels abandoned and not loved. Withholding food is not the right way to teach anyone. I know she's going to regret it in the future but this is not the army and she should know the difference.
