I didn't say they were in a relationship, read again. They choose to start the show from there and as far as i remember it took like 10 episodes for her to become an "adult". And their interactions weren't very few when she was a minor. She also saw him a lot during her high school years too. Walking around the limits doesn't make anything look pure.
