I can understand why this show have low viewership in Korea after 'Iteawon incident', but low rating in MDL makes no sense.
It has a different charm to the drama. The FL is full of emotions, delivering sad news with a smile. Yet you can see the regret and melancholy in that smile.
Then there is the camera techniques. Normally a sad drama tends to have a low exposure settings enhancing the sadness. But this one is different. Rather than filtering out all the colours, the frames are large and colourful, only to show how helpless and empty the characters are feeling.
There are shortcomings but that could stop the drama from tugging your heartstrings. It is sad, but it is also surprisingly uplifting.
Don't see the rating and ignore it. You will feel yourself alive in the story

This type of occupational segregation is everywhere. We, Indians, have created a different caste out of it. But it has nothing to do with borders or races, they are frowned upon everywhere. And the only reason is that "we" are not "humane" enough.
Before you watch it, it's a rom-com. Not a DRAMA. It just healing Romcom that pre-2010 kdrama and movies used to have. This is over the top acting (like you see in theater) with no backstabbing.
Watch it and it will heal your heart. it will remind you of My sassy girl (real one), My little bride or my tutor friend.
And if you want realistic drama, there are plenty of those. Try something else.
Before starting the drama get a pair of good headphones. And it will make me feel so good. In the end, you might find it underwhelming. But that is not the problem of drama, rather it is your problem. Because you have watched so many long dramas with many episodes with dog-food romance that you have become greedy. So cherish the moment till it last.
In ep 16, I want to draw your attention to the BGM. YYK was thinking about the past. The bgm had two tunes that overlapped on each other. when she was reminded of the painful memory they are hurtfully out of sync. And the moment the bad memory changed into the good one, the BGM(the two tunes) created a shooting harmony. That was awesome.
For those who are telling that there is not much romance in it, don't you think you are disregarding Lin Xiaoran's subtle actions (for almost 180 days) to make Nan Xiang Wan fall in love.
If your taste is corrupted by all those dominating love dramas, or do you hate all the illogical action done by the leads because they fall in love, then you will love it. It's a breath of fresh air, you won't regret it.
