Sun just spread his mom’s ashes. Now he no longer has a family member left, and he felt like he caused their deaths. Also he is punishing himself by rough on himself on purpose with Jay by bottoming and going fast (that’s why Jay told him to slow down)

it’s based on a korean manhwa which was based on a Korean novel from 2010 so that might be it cuz it’s written 16 years ago. but I think the manhwa is pretty good and it focused on the main leads and “objectives”

No, it is not a continuous story or a sequel, it is 30 episodes shorter than the original so they cut pretty much everything about the side characters and focuses more on the relationship of the 2 main male leads.
Personally, I'd recommend you to watch the original first.

nope it is justified right from the start, throughout the whole drama and also in the synopsis."There are the 'copy cats' that imitate and improve the existing crimes, and the 'mad dogs' who catch these bad cats." Plus there are some smart wordplays in korean with the word 'mad dog' which is difficult to translate/understand them unless you speak korean.
