It was out of nowhere. When the mom found out FL and ML were in a relationship, she immediately supported them. If I was the FL, it was years of therapy to be undone.
I have problem with this. I think Go Ahead is a rare example because mostly, in C Drama, MOTHER IS NEVER WRONG.
I just watch C-Dramas Our Secret, and suddenly my enjoyment with the drama dwindles to nothing when the FL's obviously very abusive and toxic mother read her diary (yuck) and shamelessly berates her for it's content. And the ML told her, in the most cliche C-drama dialogue ever, that her mother did it out of love.
NO. That's not love. That's abuse, and traumatic. The mother refuses her to have social life in school because "it's not helping with her studies", that's not love. And I hate that she never apologizes, a glass of milk is apparently enough to win her daughter heart again, but not with me.
I love that in Go Ahead, the mother is faced with the consequences of her own actions when her son is struggling with mental health because of her. But in most c-drama, abusive mother always get away with the most toxic thing ever. And somehow, they always "change" in the later episode. As if.
I love C -drama, but everytime they did this (obvious toxic and narcissist mother in display), I gritted my teeth.
just watch it and read the the review from international folks, most of them asking for more "bleak" and "gripping" ending, which is I am glad is not like that. I would be depressed for so long if they don't have their happy ending.
