I would say that even Tian acknowledged that much of what he did while in the village was about honouring what…
I get what you're saying, but I disagree. If you look at Tian's actions before going to the village after his surgery and reactions to his family with other wealthy people..to me at least it was obvious. I dont think it was anything, but subconscious though.

Tian read about Torfun's experiences and how she felt so happy in a place that essentially has next to nothing. He wanted that. He wanted to experience that life that had nothing to do with money and connections. He was craving that. He felt suffocated with his home life and all that entailed.

At the hospital, he told his father he was able to be proud of himself for once, because he did it without their wealth, power, and connections.

He craved to have a life where everything wasn't just handed to him, a life he had to earn what he gets.

Also I'm aware of the cultural differences, but that's different. His family is the cliché rich family. They are controlling, manipulative, and only has their best interests in mind. Keep in mind the way they talked about Torfun's death.

About Phupha, I'm not saying he was intentionally being manipulative, but he was. It's textbook manipulation.

I was already aware of his reasonings for everything he did. I just don't think it justified it.

And yes there was character development I'm not denying that. Just in my eyes it was too late like I said before after that certain point he could no longer redeem himself for me.

I haven't read the novel yet or anything so I dunno how accurate the series was with it, but with the heart- it wasn't so much that it was brought up constantly. It's how. Tian was entirely reduced to being the one who had Torfun's heart. And yes, a lot of what he did was for Torfun. However, I think that was also an excuse to an extent. What Tian desired was a life that money couldn't buy. He wanted happiness that could only come from a place his family's money didn't dictate everything. I get wanting him to live for himself, but that isn't quiite what took place. What took place was manipulation, his very words "If you love me, you'd do this for me" is manipulation. Not to mention, again Phupha didn't ask Tian what it was he wanted, what future he wanted. Phupha decided that Tian wanted something better, because of Tian's father's orders. There was no letting Tian choose since he's an adult. It was only forcing Tian to return to live for his parents again. The very thing he ran away from. When Tian read the diary, he wanted escapism. Obviously he did it for Torfun, but he also did it for himself even if it was subconsciously. Tian decided for himself he wanted to study to be a teacher and had to convince his mother who only wanted him in Engineering to show off. Tian didn't want to study abroad, but once again he was left with no choice since his mother compromised and is letting him study in the field he wanted. As his father put it " Don't argue with her, she's letting you study education" or something along those lines. He was allowed one thing of freedom, but it was still dictated soley by his parents' wishes or more specifically his mother's.

Oh yeah I'm totally down to discuss our different view points. I've got nothing against anyone that loves the series after all

I'm genuinely questioning if we watched the same series honestly. Everyone is raving about this and it just..wasn't it for me. I loved it at the beginning and then it was just a no. When Phupha jumped on Tian after hearing part of the truth, I didn't think he could redeem himself to me. However, he did after he learned the entire truth. That didn't last long though. Tian felt so betrayed for good reason mind you, and Phupha just went along with and fueled it since Tian's father is someone he respects. The. Manipulation. Why hasn't anyone mentioned it??? Not only from Tian's family, but from Phupha himself. "If you love me, you'll-" People have been saying this is more than a love story it's more realistic etc. There's no toxicity unlike the clichés- um. For one thing, Tian was constantly objectified, underminded, aaand everything he did was minimalized. How is that not toxic? Sure, there's no cheating or ex in the way like most series, but that doesn't mean there was nothing toxic. I've seen the excuse that since Phupha is older he had to do it so Tian had a brighter future. Aha, no. That doesn't justify anything. No one ever asked Tian what he wanted. No. One. When he was forced out of the village by his oh so loving Phupha, he decided he wanted to be a teacher; a teacher in the village. His mother compromised therefore anything that was said against her was just petty, right? According to Tian's father anyway. Speaking of his father, exactly how is he a hero? Yes, kudos to him for not being bigoted as well, but that doesn't justify anything he did before that. Tian was in a toxic environment the entire time except with Longtae and Khuma. I also think Tul redeemed himself a bit. What happened after his surgery was sickening. How was that also not toxic?? There were a few times with Longtae and Khuma that he was objectified, but not nearly as much. Was Tian just not a person? He was constantly compared to Torfun and reduced to the person with Torfun's heart. I'm not sure what people mean when they say this is more than a love story. Seriously I'd like to know why and how it is. I ended up smiling at the very end where Tian is teasing Phupha, but that's only because it was Mix and Earth's personalities showing.
