Yeah in the drama they made Rong Xia more passive and play on his scholarly role. I guess cause they need to dramatize it. My friend watched the drama up to ep 30 and she says they made rong xia too emotional compared to the novel. She also say they added more angst for our leads. I’m just sad they change the ending! And in the novel ban Hua only Thought rong xia was good looking she fell for him slowly. But I guess they had to change it cause it’s only a 40 Episode drama.

Yeah...sigh there’s so many interesting scenes that the drama didn’t get to do and the changes in characters because they need to make it more dramatize. However Hou Zi and Xiao Tong fit the image of Rong Xia and Ban Hua in my opinion. I was a little disappointed with how they change the crown prince character. I understand why they had to change scenes to develop Rong Xia and Ban Hua relationship more but what I like about the novel is that we saw how Rong Xia was slowly attracted to Ban Hua. With his glances. He fell for her first lol.
He wasn’t flerting with miss Shi, I think he is purposely being friendly with her to use her against her father.
I agree with you. I don’t think Rong Xia was flirting with her because he have feelings for her. In one of the scene where she came to the refugee. I think he was playing nice since he wants to take down her family. Mostly when her grandfather is the corrupted one.
Like many people, I read some of the novels and it's a long novel around 400 chapters. They did change a lot of scenes and character personalities but I am actually fine with it since I knew Cdrama will never follow the book accurately. So I had a feeling they would make it more entertaining and giving dimension to other characters. Seems like they going to change the ending as well. In the novel, Rong Xia ascended the throne and become the emperor in the ending of the novel he was sick, and in his dream he went back to the original timeline. If you have not figure out yet Ban Hua's visions are from her previous life. She got reborn back to the timeline before she died. Of course, they won't explicitly say it in the drama cause of censorship. Anyways Rong Xia goes back to the original timeline and he was emperor he asks his assistance where is Ban Hua and he told the emperor she died a long time ago and he gave an emperor degree that was beneficial to the ban family and took care of them. And to buried Ban Hua with the title princess. When he heard that in secret he cried because he regrets not giving her the title Empress. I guess in the previous timeline Rong Xia did had good feelings for Ban Hua but he did not voice it romantically. Then he woke up into the current time and Ban Hua was next to him and he told her never to leave him. They had a child together and she was his empress. In the drama, it seems like the crown prince will take the throne. TBH I want to see Rong Xia as emperor but then the story going to take a long time lol and in the novel, there's a lot more drama. I like the crown prince in the novel though.
