Correct me if I'm wrong. On the right course of events the first murder and second murder happened in a two days time window and during at least the first murder Hae Joon's dad should still be overseas. He came back basically one day later then the original day of the second murder. So was he just hiding and preteding to be overseas while also stocking some candies to send his dad (Hae Joon's grandfather) to predent he was not in korea? It's possible but I don't think it's him and hope it's not either. It would be just too sad because them it also means his dad killed Hae Joon in the future. Also why go after Yoon Young mother and pretend it was a suicide? Ah, to many question. I can't really wait one week T_T

I'm saying this but don't take me wrong, the main actors are amazing and for me the issue don't lie with the acting of anyone on this drama. As the watcher we start with a FL that the only relationship she has with the ML is that he's a devil that is destroying everything and everyone, destroying her home, killing her sect and murdering her family. She don't remember her past lifes and neither do we have this info from the get go. I totally get it that she will have to deal with her emotions and goals and go from hating him and wanting to kill him to love him and trying to save both but that development never happens after she goes to the past (ep1) and she from the get go already has an amicable relationship with him, what for me is odd. Even if the second leads and side character will play bigger roles later the first 15 episodes still have this issue where the characters only show to fill a need and that's it. Also almost from the very beginning we have the knowledge that the ML was not really sent as a symbol of peace between two countries. He's father abandoned him because of the mother of his son and love/favorite concubine/wife died during the birth when he choose her to survive instead of the baby. We also learn that this about sending him as a symbol of peace was basically a excuse sent by god so he could get rid of the son he hates and already mistreat. So we have the contrast where he is abandoned and hated by his father and expelled from his home. So if his father already treated him so poorly we don't really expect that this country that was "forced" to recieve and take care of him will treat him any better. Also the king treating him badly don't really justify how he basically decide to abandon his people and soldiers like he did and with no reasonable reason. It just happened really. Also about the scene of the maid, totally agree with you. The social hierarchy does play a big role in scene like that but they could have choosen to stop her using such methods, like she is a maid and the prince is there, it's his palace, his servants and he make the orders and no one can defy. But the drama choose to hold her physically and used 3 littles boys to do the deed. Since that was the choice made we could have guards or other servants in the room to fullfil that rneed to physically hold her but the 3 boys makes no sense, while she is on her knees screaming for them to stop. Also about the brother changing sides, I get it why he did that and agree that was the right move. However he was so relutant about even the option to surrender and when he finally makes the decision (which didnt really take much time x-x) he also is shown right after switching sides. Odd. Odd is just how a lot of scenes, decisions can be described for me. And let's not even talk about the god of war and pricenss of the river and their marriage :V
I saw some comments saying that 16 episodes were cut off. Maybe these were what was needed to the storytelling actually make the story flow in a reasonable manner with ok development of characters.
I hope I'm not killed here for saying this but I'm 15 epsiodes in this and if you are in doubt about watching this if you like the fact that it's a xinxia and the main lead actors then go for it, but if you want to watch a drama with good/ok/racional storytelling than it's the wrong drama. All the story is broken in pieces that are not put togther and just don't make sense at all, here are a couple examples: (1) You have the FL go back in time after all the killing and destruction that the devil made and after seeing her family getting basically killed and she goes back and is happy go lucky. There is no development of possible trauma, or any type of doubts, guilty, angts or rage about the fact that the guy that destroy everything and made her go back to the past and carry the heavy burden of saving basically the world is her husband and even tho he is not the "bad guy" yet he still is. (2) The second main couple (FL's sister and the prince) are there because they are. We have no background no story about them. They basicalluy fell in love at first sight without the love at first sight kinda scene because there is nothing really there. They just love each other and they marry. She have her issues with not being the main wife of the prince because she is a concubine daughter but the drama never really worked on this trope to make me feel anything for her when she is sad and angry and infuriated because the man she loves couldn't give her that position even tho he loves her back. And not one of them carried about their marriage being runied by the crows. After so many dramas that I watched I fell like they should have minded this because this is kinda of a bad omen and these stuff matters in these types of dramas. (3) The bad guys only are on screen when the drama needs to show us they being bad to the male lead and when the male lead has his revange. Like one of these guys is one of the princes and he never shows at any screen time when it comes to political stuff or war desicions. (4) The king turns out as an asshole and he just goes from being the king to being an psycopath that only care about getting the hostage prince that was never supposed to get any title, even less being a king, to loose the war and who cares about the people or the soldiers, right? (5) Also, the FL's brother is a rightous man that is the heir of the family, a important general family that is loyal to their country and their king that accomplised so much, but you knows, it's fair to actually surrender because there a lot of lives on the battlefield and he knows he have no man power or supplies to win even less to keep going without big looses but besides waving the white flag he decides that he is going to switch from one king to the other without any dilema or racional thinking. He just goes pufff, and changes his side and the color of his clothes. (6) Also, can we please get over the classic and dumb trope of not talking? If you wanna have a relationship you guys need to talk. (7) Is it just me but like the first 6/8 episodes everytime Tantai Jin had screentime I just couldn't get over the fact that it doesnt make sense to me that the top of his wig is brown, like light brown but the rest of the hair is black. (8) One of the most non racional think for me was a scene where the main lead is getting bullied after he came to the palace as a hostage and the maid goes in the room sees it and the prince (i think) tells whoever is there to hold her and she is held and cant do anything t help the main lead. Like guys, she is being held by 3 littles boys xD She is a grown woman. Like sure if you want to make her not being able to help use the fact that the guys attacking the ml is a prince and she is just a maid. This could be enought without the need to get physical to stop her but 3 littles boys can't really physically stop a grown woman like that. This is just not a racional thing to do. I just couldn't deal with that scene.
Im on episode 28 and scared to continue. If you read this tomorrow when the last 2 episodes are out please tell me if it's a happy ending . For both main couples.
It just not that great for me. It's odd. The drama is slow space, and during the entire 6 episodes nothing much happened. The fight scenes are okay but nothing to big or that makes whoever is watching get hype. Well, the part about the killer and the mystery about who is it is not really a mystery and not that important. It finishes with an open end, probably because we will get a second season.
It's just felt odd. Like there is something missing. It was overall a big meh for me . I'm not one to talk much about dramas but just wanted to let everyone knows.
Is it worth the watch? Maybe, it's just six episodes so It is quite fast, so sure you can try. Is it good? Not really.

Well, I think that after watching all episodes I can say (and hopefully most of the people that already watched can agree) that Esther Yu and all actors did an amazing job as well as the entire crew.
On the first episode after ml dies, when the flashback of his life is shown the background song is Jupiter the Bringer of Jollity by Gustav Golst right? It's one of my favorite songs. >< If Im really right loved what they did there
Tried to watch this two times already because the plot/story of this drama hit the spot for me but omg the acting is insanely bad, horrible. Take note that I'm not very demanding and can deal with a lot in dramas and don't really now the cast but this one takes the cake.
Also based on the novel is it a happy or sad ending?
