He was in the 1st drama I ever watched (Coffee Prince). It’s heartbreaking. Was there really no other way out? I hope all the people who’ve failed him live long lives and think about it every. single. day.
The point of the story is that the mc embraces her role as a mother. That’s why she sort of looks happy at the end. Even though it means being stuck in a disfunctional relationship, misunderstood, and sacrificing parts of herself that aren’t part of this role. A nightmare for a westerner, but apparently a valid resolution for the Japanese.
This drama only made sense to me after I read the book Japanese Frames of Mind, and without the background knowledge of the culture, you’d think this is some horror story, and the mc a masochistic doormat.
