LBW was practically begging the Queen to save Young shil:1. Saying she was the only one who'd ever given him comfort…
It was a bit of a smack in the face the Queen who by this time had been married to him for 20 odd years (no official concubines until he became king) and birthed 8 childen. I would have wanted him to beg on hands and knees as well - that would have crushed even the strongest person imo to hear the person you thought loved you, whom you had supported completely take you for granted and say thay you had never given him any comfort. I though she remained rather dignified.
So having previously watched The King of Tears and Six Flying Dragons I'm fully prepped for a tragedy! My interpretation the previous Queen (his step-mother) had too much power in his opinion and he probably blames her for his daddy issues. This all accumulated into him not wanting to be a puppet king but also his heir to not be a puppet king for the Min family either so his solution isolate the Queen from the Min's and make her powerless and the price was total destruction of their husband/wife relationship - although I dont think he truly appreciated how strong his wife was and in his arrogance he thought she would just accept this new status quo and just get with the program and they would continue playing happy couples.
The Queen's family's sense of entitlement probably didnt help and made things worse for her as well.
Its going to be a rollercoaster and I am looking forward to this interpretation of this husband/wife power couple.
Ultimately he wanted to change the dynamic of their relationship and she didnt. This was shown in the bedroom scene in Ep 1 - the court maid saying the Queen should never be higher than the King and the Queen basically straddling the King. She was expected to conform but she never expected her husband to demand she conform the ultimate betrayal.
Nup still not over XL's ending. TjC was outstanding - i sobbed through all his scenes the last 6 episodes- im still puffy and heartbroken and angry that XY is oblivious!
I think Quantum Entanglement perfectly describes XL and XY. TSJ was always just the safe option and XY imo never experienced the same level of emotional complexity with TSJ that she did with XL its why she could never muster up the courage to honestly tell XL how she felt.
TSJ basically imprinted on XY but there was a lack of individuality or independence from TSJ and quite frankly I think ultimately XY would have started longing for XL.
Ultimately she was too terrified of the answer - remember she said she is terrified of pain - so it was easier to choose TSJ as he was predictable . I think deep in her subconscious she probably believed/hoped that one day XL would tell her that he loved her not realising that fate/destiny would forever make that impossible. Of the 3 relationships only XL and XY was lost forever.
XL drew a line between him and XY even though you could see his longing to take that different path he knew he never would so by not allowing himself to enter XY's dreams he thought he was protecting her from the eventual heartbreak. He knew the only way he could love her was to set her free.
It's quite a tragic love as XL said himself he wouldn't change his path as it would mean never meeting her (although XY thought he meant his foster father) while knowing that his path was set. Its that old timing conundrum - they met too late.
All the qualities that draw us to XL are the same bloody qualities breaking ours and XY's hearts.
Whoever XY ends up with she will always have a special place in her heart for XL.
So I loved this series and every aspect was beautiful and a joy to watch. I am sure I am not alone when I say I do have big feels about how it ended.
If we will be surprised with a part 2 (which there is definitely room for as WuFeng is down but not out and aet for an epic comeback) - then the ending was perfect and a great set up to introduce the big villian as well as answer the Q's 'who does return to GZY' and is 'GGS really pregnant and will we get a mini GSJ toddling around' and 'what is the bigger bad that the Gongs are protecting the world from by staying cooped up on the hill' and whats going to happen to Papa Sheng for letting GHY pass the 3rd trial. Lastly I just want to see the sibling bonds between all the Gongs develop and watch their journey as they rebuild the Gong stronghold.
If that is all we will ever get I needed closure and not a cliff hanger. I'm not a big fan of this style of 'room for interpretation' ending and it has left me feeling disappointed as I want the 'more' promised with that ending!
Its going to take me a little while to get over this one!
On the countrary, I thought it was brilliant, and completely followed what the FL showed of her personnality since…
Totally agree - for QY to just forget her dreams and stay with LY would have been totally against her character. She loves him and he loves her and understands her and supports her dreams which means letting her explore those dreams wirh the hopes she comes back one day. This is a beautiful romance in my books and I am loving every second. QY needs to de ide to stay on her terms to be happy but she wasnt going to know ehat she really wanted until she left to pursue her first dream otherwise she would have been miserable always was wondering what if. It is perfectly done and primed for a beautfiul happy ending (it had better have one!)
I am loving the growth of these two women as well as 2nd Master, however, i cant help but feel that hubby will reappear to upset the apple cart for all three.
The Queen's family's sense of entitlement probably didnt help and made things worse for her as well.
