Actually the storyline itself is very long. The fantasy genre with many characters needs many episodes to feature. There was a rumour since last year, this drama will have 2 parts; because tvn dramas can not go more episodes than 20. So they had to make it second part. For different FL, it's a part of the storyline (I suppose), it will be clear in Part 1 finale.
I think it's a spin-off of AOS(Officially they never said what it is, but rumors says GYJ will be FL of that)…
It will be clear in Part 1 finale, about how they will plan it for Part 2, what happens to Mudeok body or how Naksu regain her original body. Let's wait to find out!
