it is an art meant to see as an art for itself. I am sorry if majority here can't see the same. The movie was trying to convey how eros not moderated can uncontrollably out of hand squeeze you out of it. It is the same "Ikigai" philosophy Japanese hold.

As the theme was eros it can't be detached from the sex itself. For it holds the key why they can't separate each other to the point of terminal. Truly Nagisa Oshima magnum opus.
