Master Lee said himself in ep22 naksu didn't take over this body using AOS, her soul was actually locked up in this body nd it makes sense tbh to me since ep1 I had always thought why did she appear all of a sudden in btw naksu AOS with that other girl. It was Jin mu who explained the syncing of souls with body parts normally in AOS of mages but bu Yeon was a priestess so that theory doesn't apply in this naksu nd buyeons case

Bu Yeons body was weak hmm is what naksu thought but as far as we have known after all these episodes bu Yeon had prisoned naksus soul in her body so that naksu can't use her mage powers. Bu Yeon was blocking her powers so it made it look to naksu that the body was weak. Then in ep 20 Jin mu started using a countermeasure the bells artifact or relic to make naksus soul controlled by him instead of bu Yeon that was keeping naksu in check all the time mostly. So while all the events that happened naksu was able to use her powers cuz of that nd this led to faster petrification of buyeons body which made bu Yeons soul weak also so when Lee found her he said bu Yeon is merely clinging to naksus energy to be alive but Lee said it's not possible to keep both souls alive their are two choices either let them both die like that nd let the body keep getting petrified fully or we can use naksus remaining cultivation energy to replenish the body again to its former self but only one soul can survive that's naksu cuz the energy remaining dominant was naksu nd bu Yeons became weaker so Lee had to remove bu Yeon soul nd use naksus energy to remove the petrificatiom but he also used such measures that the body won't run wild again so he led the transformation of the body towards the original appearance nd aptitudes of naksu real body
For priestess Idk how their power dynamics works here but for mages I can tell clearly because they follow a cultivation realm power scaling. so far we have seen that gyj can display powers without knowing how to handle them nd it's being said that bu Yeon soul is gone so it's the body through which she inherited the powers bloodline matters more in case of priestess

What I think is take the eg of UK he is biologically the son of jang Kang right but the soul that was inside at the time was the kings. Remember cp is a mage so royal members must have mages bloodline in them too we don't know whether the dead king was a mage or not. The foundation base of a persons inherent power of a mage still comes from their genes but when they cultivate their powers the genetic part becomes insignificant their cultivations base becomes their soul nd if they change bodies their whole cultivation stays attached to the souls so if they shift to other people's body it won't affect in some ways their powers if the other target body is in sync with their souls.
