But...how does inbreeding factor in when it is impossible for a gay couple to reproduce? There is zero chance…
The inbreeding is part of it. But another part is how, during development in infancy, we humans determine kinship through close association - that this person lives in my family, my parents treat them as family so we are siblings (it's why adoptive children don't have a lot of difficulty integrating into a family when they are adopted young). And so incest, even among queer couples violates this idea of kinship.
For me an even bigger issue with the couple is that they were raised together, when Yong Jie was a child, who clearly has difficulty comprehending social life, and so he has just attached himself to the first person he thought was looking out for him. Any relationship between them would not be healthy in my opinion.

Wow I have never commented here but my feelings about this show are very confusing and I feel like I need to vent.
It is packed with awful, harmful tropes, stalking, violence, incest (I'm gonna call it this because they were raised together), weird fetishization, etc. But I feel like Mu Ren and Li Cheng have a lot of potential as this fun dumb and dumber pair. I mean they really think this is going to work to get Mei Fang to fall for him, I don't know what else to call them. And despite Li Cheng being a little annoying in the beginning, he's really just one of those impulsive, loud but fiercely loyal people
The brothers' story can be salvaged. Yong Jie clearly is not a socially adjusted person and so he seems to have just latched onto the one person who had to be a part of his life. A story of his brother helping him move on from this obsession and learning to empathize, and communicate with others could make for an interesting arc. I just don't think the writers are going to go there.
I guess for now, we can just wait and see where this goes. It is very different from previous History chapters. I felt like a lot of them were far more nuanced and well written.
