The FL here is utterly enraging and clownish. Outlandish and impetuous decision making. The ML has the patience of a saint. Doesn't save the show though.
I didn't want this to end TBH. I feel Korean dramas could still milk more out of comedy and go a bit more ham, a bit more eccentric, but anyway the mix of quirkiness and "serious" drama which is actually compelling until the end makes this a must-watch show. By the time I wasn't laughing much, I was anyway simply engrossed with the plot lines. Mr Queen has excellent pacing and is never tiresome.
Some horrible writing in this show, despite it still being generally enthralling. The writers laid many eggs and succeeded in consistently making the leads look like absolute idiots. When you are constantly one step ahead of a supposedly well-trained expert cop, among other characters, well... it makes the characters look bad, and it makes the writers look even worse.
But I still liked it despite these horrible flaws. 8/10
If you want a solid Sageuk which is needlessly extended then by all means give this a go - after all, it's still a solid effort. If you'd like an show where in the intervening years the writers apparently fixed all their mistakes for their next Sageuk effort then watch Six Flying Dragons.
While watching it, I enjoyed this drama very much. Yet, after it ended, there was no place for it in my mind. In a strange way I found it brilliant, yet forgettable -- kinda weird, I know. No lasting impact but definitely worth the watch. Shin Ha Kyun's performance is exceptional here.
Just curious what is an exciting drama for you? Cause this drama is really good but it's a slow burn and honestly…
Think I dropped this at episode 9 or so. Both me and my gf found this to be very disappointing and vacuous after being initially pulled in by the beauty and aesthetics of the show. The writing is so stilted, lacking flow. Even though I like many of the characters they all get lost in this mess. Who knows, maybe it picks up, but there are plenty of other dramas to watch instead so ho hum.
Sheesh why is he getting so few drama projects? He was easily one of the most memorable, brilliant, and well-written characters in all of Empress Ki. He was outstanding.
He was so brilliant in Empress Ki. And now I'm watching Queen Seondeok and there he is again! And then I watched some Move to Heaven and - oh look! - there he is again.
Episode 1 was hard to stomach really. There's a thickly caked on mask of affectation and tasteless melodrama not just in terms of it being a Makjang but also the formal choices made regarding direction and the use of music -- a sort of high fakeness slapped on by design. Hard to explain but it was pretty nasty. MIGHT watch episode 2... only because Kang Ja-Kyeong is quite intriguing.
Well said!

It is destiny.
