do i have to watch the drama before watching this? it is now currently avail at my cinemas and i am willing to…
Nope, but watching the drama would make you appreciate the characters more, but even if you don't, only the last scene (after the credits) is linked to the drama.
Okay, just checked the last ep, NF version. Same ending, same length. Sad :(
I didn't really watch NF version but I realised they changed the music of one of the final scenes in NF version, and I am biased for this music so I really liked the change.
The ending was great and I would rate it 8/10 on its own since it's a really good finish to the show as compared to the countless garbage endings I've seen from both CDramas and KDramas. BCF's suicide scene was really good cinematographically(except for the weird falling scene lol), it really showed his regrets and the transition to the character he is now.
The awkward Lei Mei stabbing BCF and walking away was really weird, as well as SMZ asking YWX to kill him rather than him stabbing himself instead. LC's suicide scene was also really good by the production team, if only her character development was this instead of the weird "turning evil" plot in the past 10 episodes. The scene of WXS assassinating Prime Minister Cai and then getting help from the other people was also pretty touching. Wen Rou still contributed nothing to the plot of the show, her existence really didn't matter, well except for indirectly causing the death of WXS's master I guess. While WXS and BCF were just fighting to the death, she's just spectating and doing nothing. Lastly, the flashback to the characters as the opening song plays really shows how far we've come, wished they showed something about the first scene in episode 1 about the musician tho, to explain why WXS is travelling alone without WR.
The whole show however, is only a 6/10 from me, I really desired a lot of things from this show but some of the plots and character developments made no sense and they skipped/skimmed through a lot of fight scenes and deaths like WXS/DFJ vs FYK, and we rarely see SMZ fight, even though he is supposedly the no.1 fighter.
BCF: Died by suicide from falling from top of Sunset Drizzle, also got stabbed by Lei Mei on his command to end his pain. SMZ: Died by "suicide"; asked his close friend YWX to kill him on his command LC: Presumably died by suicide too, by walking into the sea. She wanted BCF to stay with her but he chose death instead and she had big regrets between her and SMZ. Prime Minister Cai: Killed by WXS. The two aides to the Ministry of Justice: One forced into suicide by BCF, another got killed by BCF. WXS: Lives, decided to leave the martial world and travel the world instead, is accompanied by WR, Zhu Xiao Yao, Yang Wu Xie and the friends he met at the stronghold. Burns his Retainment Sword together with the bodies of SMZ and BCF, and kept their ashes in an urn he carries around in his wooden backpack.
New Leader of Sunset Drizzle is revealed to be Qi Shao Xiang, but I can't remember his role in the show. I slightly recalled hearing his name but forgot who he is.
Just reflecting about the characters in the song sung by the old man in the beginning of episode 1:- Red Sleeve…
Fast Slow Pith isn't BCF and Sincere and Honest isn't WXS, the old man sang the same song at the end of episode 1, in the past, before they even started their journey together.
Instead, he stated a poem after WXS leaves, which describes him holding the two blades "Longing and Retaining". Also, in the song at the beginning of the episode, "At Blood River Yingkan regards" refers to the newly introduced character who baited WXS into the well.
Lastly, WXS says that all of them in the poem died, which suggests the death of Su Meng Zhen and Yingkan.
2. No, but they do meet, and had one of the funniest interactions.

Thank you for listening to my rant :)
