I really loved this drama but the episodes between 27-32 were not as good in my opinion. There were some inconsistencies such as the emperor's 180 change but no matter what, I loved it. I also loved the relationship between Xiyang and Xia Jinyang (such a great actor) and would love to see them work together again in the future.

Also I would say Shun is the type, once he falls in love, he is in too deep. I am the same and maybe this is why I understand his behaviour. In my opinion, their relationship in the show helped them build a deeper connection than others. The reason for this is that they saw different sides of each other and they knew what a future relationship would bring.
Also, I put the spoiler so you don't get spoiled since you have not seen all of the episodes yet but it seems like the last 9 months after the show has helped them a lot. They seem to be much more in love than in the show and also have a healthy relationship. Shun seems to have become more open and expressive than before. Dai looks like he is proud of how much Shun has changed.
Also, you need to remember that the show didn't show us everything that happened between them. But no matter what they are still together and seem to be very happy.

But he quickly escalates from 1 to 50. Knowing that I think it makes sense in a way to how cautious he is when he's interested in someone so he doesn't get hurt. I wish they had kept this on the show. This does not excuse his actions, but I really feel like all his lashing out was A) due to his childhood and B) him battling between really liking Dai and not feeling safe enough to trust him yet.

Maybe try to watch the recent activities with Shun and Dai. They seem to have a very healthy relationship and Shun has opened up so much. They obviously love each other very much and the last 9 mpnths had helped them build a healthy relationship
