Story:When I found out that Channel 3 was adapting the Dhevaprom series which is the sequel to the Suphapburut Juthathep series, I was on the edge of my seat because as most people are, I’m a fan of the prequel so of course I was excited to see the main characters from Juthathep children’s stories. As I was reading through the synopsis of each installment, I was most anticipated for Kwanruethai because of the direct connections that both leads’ parents had in the prequel. Chatklao, who is our male protagonist, is the son of Khun Chai Pudhiphat and Krongkaew Ayutthaya. Khwanruetai, who is our female protagonist, is the daughter of Maratee Dhevaprom. In the prequel, Khun Chai Pudhiphat and Maratee were engaged and Maratee was in love with Pudhiphat and was sure she’s going to marry him. Pudhiphat did not feel the same way and fell in love with Krongkaew instead. It didn’t turn out great at the end for Maratee as she became the mistress of a powerful general who is Kwanruetai’s biological father and had her face accidentally scarred. In Dhevaprom: Kwanruetai, after the death of that powerful general, not receiving any money after fighting in court, Maratee remarried and moved to Chiang Rai where Kwanruetai is raised not knowing her mom’s true identity. Maratee resented Kwanruetai and thinking she’s bad luck because of the poor conditions they’re in. Kwanruetai lives a Cinderella life as she works and cleans for Maratee even stopping her education just so she could accommodate her mom’s needs. Chatklao is a military doctor who got stationed in Chiang Rai and met Kwanruetai who was selling food outside of the hospital he works in. They bump into each other several times and Chatklao was smitten by Kwanruetai not knowing that her mother was his father’s ex-fiance. He started to suspect Maratee after Kwanruetai entered a beauty pageant where Maratee interrupted and forbade her daughter from participating. After that, Chat was even more determined to be with Kwan and will do anything to be with her. Honestly, while watching this drama while on air, I kept anticipating when he would find out about who Kwan’s mother is and what he will do knowing how Maratee hates his parents. He already kind of had a clue that Maratee was really his father’s ex-fiance and was just waiting for the right time to strike. Once he knew that Maratee was really the person he thought she was, he was ready to do anything to be with Kwanruetai no matter how much Maratee is against them being together. All I really care about is the family drama between both leads. The only plotline that I wasn’t interested in at all were the drug cases. I found them boring and attempted to skip them. I feel like they’re just kind of there to add more things to the story other than the leads’ family drama and for Chat to get shot so he could confess to Kwan. Overall, I love the leads’ dynamics and how their relationship is especially in connection with their parents. I gave it a 10 because this was the story I was waiting for the most and it did not disappoint.
Acting/Cast:
I gave it an 8.6 because some are very good and some are okay. Of course Yada is always an EXCELLENT actress. She’s honestly the BEST Thai actress in this generation. Girl can act out any role and nail them all. I can’t express how good she is. I feel like the role of Kwanruetai was light work for her. As for Mikey, he’s really good looking but his acting wasn’t the best. He is good for a newbie though. He’s just a little bland in some scenes along with his speech. The rest of the cast did decently for their respective roles. Some are excellent and some are decent but none were a sore thumb.
Music:
Music is really decent, both opening and ending. I feel like they’re not the type of songs to withstand the test of time but I think they’re good to listen to once in a while. The opening song was sung well with no boring parts. Yada did amazing singing the ending song. When they released the teaser, I thought it was an actual singer but later found out it was the talented Yada who sang it.
Rewatch Value:
Since this was the one I anticipated the most, I will definitely rewatch it for the main couple scenes and skip the other parts, especially the drug cases. Overall, this installment of the Dhevaprom series has the shortest amount of episodes which does make me a little sad but I think it’s acceptable considering it’s pretty well received and would not have been so if it were to have more episodes because that means it will drag.
