I wish more would be written about this topic. I call it the 'Emperor's New Clothes Syndrome' where it creates an environment where a difference of opinion is not well recieved and even criticized. I dont always agree, but i love learning why others like/or don't like something. It makes me dig deeper into my own tastes.

Thank you for this well thought out and insightful article. I hope it finds its way to someone who has influence in the KDrama industry! I'd like to add, another big shift that I've seen and personaly experienced is viewers that have moved on to BLs. I watched my first one during Covid after being an avid KDrama watcher since 2012. After dipping my toe in BL waters, I dove in and binge watched everything available. I know I'm not alone, [even without actual stats, probably because it's an unspoken guilty pleasure that until recently, shall not be named. (Am i ready to admit to being a fujoshi?😅🥰)], the industry stepped up and started producing more qualtity, quality and a variety of BLs. Korea (in spite of itself/internal homophobia) has entered the ring, with very short but decent series in 2020, with 17 in 2023. Korea has not disappointed me producing some of my favorites like Semantic Error and The Eighth Sense. I've since then had a hard time watching and sticking with hetero romances. Maybe BLs should come with a different warning ⚠️ (Raikentopeni, if you know, you know😅🥰) like sometimes kpop is called a black hole 🕳 or "You can only Jimin but you can't JimOut". I digress... I'm saying its just as addictive and inspite of recently watching a few KDramas, I have a full schedule of BLs to keep up on or finish, about 17 right now ( 9 Thai, 5 Japanese, 1 Taiwanese, 1 Vietnamese and 1 Korean)and it's a niche that is taking viewers away.
