This drama really does injustice to Queen Dowager Xuan, turning her from an independent, sex positive, courageous and wise politician and regent to a Mary Sue who needs help from a bunch of men. The Qin Empire 2 and 3 portray her so much better.

the difference in the anime is the ml actually never disobeyed the captain and he shot the girl dead as his captain commanded.

a good show is the one which handles good storylines for its characters no matter if there is romance or not. the fact that the drama forced romance to its main characters then handled and made it end terribly to look like the books is extremely disappointing. don't get me wrong, i enjoyed the romance of xiyan and su shunqin but in my opinion it should have just focused on the trio's friendship and their characters' growth amongst the adults' conspiracies in a got-like world not their poorly handled and forced romance.

He does, just like in the original anime. The only difference is the fate of the girl who goes with him.

i must say most people are very lucky to watch this show without reading the novel because i can tell you this is an extremely disappointing adaption. the lovelines ruin everything, even though in the novel asule and jiye liked yuran and yuran liked jiye in fact there was still no loveline and the trio stayed as best friends until the novel ends and there was NO loveline between asule and xiaozhou either (xiaozhou was only 8 and asule was like 16), but since the drama confirmed yuran and jiye they had to create an entire arc only for the drama (asule in tianqi and died and got resurrected) and deleted almost entire other very important arc (shangyang gate) battle) of asule and jiye just to build the loveline for asule and jiye. yuran shouldn't have never stayed in that temple being a virgin forever, what's the point of being a person from winged tribed who could never be able to fly again (and she supposed to lead the yu people iof qingzhou to fight the rebellions from qingzhou's states). and most importantly, both asule and jiye are very strong, while it's true that asule was the softer one and almost completely opposite to jiye character wise, it doesn't mean he should be THAT naive in the drama, he supposed to be as strong as the story goes along with jiye, and the drama completely failed doing justice to asule's character.
