Title The Forest of Love
Sion Sono (the director) is well known for his use of absurdity to deliver messages in a unique way that is worth getting into…. but this movie misses the mark. The script is awkward and the scenes lack cohesion, a lot of time is wasted on maintaining the “aesthetic” of the film. The movie is supposed to be a psychological thriller/ horror with a mystery around finding a killer while the characters make a movie. The problem is that the group of people trying to find the killer are just as weird, so there is very little contrast. As they all turn insane, the change is predictable and boring since they all started out crazy too. Some of the scenes are exaggerated to the point of boredom— again, more for the aesthetic of horror/thriller than actual purpose. The acting is average, only Kippei Shiina (who plays Joe Murata) is worth watching.
