It's actually a bit deeper than that. They show open support toward queer fans and other queer artists, and they…
I know, but that's the thing people often wrongly assume, that there is something they are gaining from it - fame, money, exposure - that they wouldn't get without resorting to potraying gay relationships. Meanwhile, all evidence points to the contrary. Their most viewed MVs all came before they started incorporating queer themes in an overt way (although lyrically savanna and sage are definitely very queer songs). Their views never broke 10M again after that, but they never backed down from talking about gay experiences, even though it hasn't brought them respect or popularity among the Korean audience. The libidO choreography got popular because it was controversial how boldly they potrayed the theme of the song, but they never tried to capitalize on that by riding the hype wave and making something even more outrageous next time. The possibility that all of the members and their entire creative team are straight is frankly very low, but even if that's the case, there is plenty good queer art that was created by straight people and opened the doors for queer creators to convey their own experiences. It's important for queer people to create queer art, but if the art itself is honest and impactful, nobody needs to come out in order to make it so. Sorry if this comes across like I'm trying to argue, I agree with you on everything but I'm also really passionate about this group, and I've seen way too many people downplay how revolutionary and simultaneously painfully overlooked they really are. Currently they're in a position where even if they are queer, they can't come out, so hypothesizing the validity of their art based on that isn't very fair to the members. If you haven't read the lyrics to begin by Yoojung I highly recommend you do, because it's one of the most relatable and comforting songs a queer person could ever hear, and it's clear it came from a place of love and understanding toward the queer experience.
I find it ironic that the show is talking about a “gay business model” when it seems like that’s what they…
It's actually a bit deeper than that. They show open support toward queer fans and other queer artists, and they have been faced with heavy critique for the queer themes in their art. I've analyzed their concept (MVs, lyrics and symbolism), and there is an underlying theme there of idols having to hide and pretend. If it wasn't clear before, their newest album is called Things I Can't Say LOve. Whatever the members' identities are doesn't really matter, because they are creating meaningful and multifaceted queer art. It's actually a bit meta that they participated in this series, because a music video like skinz or the entire undergrOund idOl project hint at a performance for the camera behind which hides a true identity that can't be openly talked about. I'm sorry if it sounds a bit confusing, I'm willing to clear something up if you have any questions. I just saw that your comment holds the same kind of misconception that a lot of people make when they look at OnlyOneOf, and as someone who's been in the fandom for over two years now, I can assure you their art is deeply meaningful and inspiring to queer people, and the members are also very passionate about that aspect of it.
Why do the three main characters have names from NCT? That's suspicious....
Only Jungwoo has the same name, Taeyoung has a different second syllable (영 instead of 용) and there is no Junghyun in NCT, I'm guessing you're thinking of Jaehyun but the first syllable is completely different
Guys, its good right? I really wanna start watching it but I’m sceptical
It's really good, I was sceptical at first too cause I was just coming off some BLs with questionable content (mostly non-con) and was afraid the crime element in this would only make this worse, but there was none of that. The acting is mostly great (there is one character later on that overacts a bit and it kinda ruins their part of the storyline but otherwise everyone is doing a great job), the storyline is very interesting, the characters and their romance are well-developed and complex, this is definitely one of my all time favorite Thai BLs and I highly recommend it!
Currently reading the manhwa, super excited for this drama. I'm curious who they'll cast for the two mains since they're supposed to be the most good looking people around, usually because of the difference in beauty standards I don't really see why certain characters are supposed to be attractive and popular but we'll see. Also I'm hoping this drama will be longer (like Semantic Error - 20 min episodes), cause I really wanna see the subplot of Siwon's sister's crush on Yoonjung, give me the lesbian crumbs.
Not gonna lie, the fact that they decided to revive the story now gives me hope that they won't just follow all the same story beats but will give it a due update for the modern times. I know they probably won't change much, but the fact that it's 16 episodes allows them to expand on the men's relationship. Another thing that gives me hope (probably in vain) that the remake will focus more on the gay couple is the cast that was announced so far - in the movie the male and female leads were more important than the second male lead, but so far we don't even know the actress that's going to play her, just the men. Also, the homophobia in the plot is still somewhat realistic in 2021, but having them commit double suicide cause they don't wanna live as a gay couple is just super outdated and downright regressive, I think we as a society have moved away from bury your gays, Korean media included. Basically all I'm hoping for is that they decided to remake it in order to be progressive, not just because it's a popular movie and a remake with a star cast is going to make money.
