Another Xu Kai drama I think I will left midway. I left Midnight Returns halfway as there were barely any Xu Kai scenes while 2ML and 3ML getting more screen time than Xu Kai. As for confirmed rumours he will also has less screen time here as well.
This is a youku drama or iqyi i don't think this is tencent so probably xu kai will get his proper screentime
Nope, there was a full scandal during filming that filming staff calls Xu Kai everyday on set without filming his any scene. His character's arc wasn't filmed completely. He skipped many weeks of filming while FL was filming from start to end without any break.

Yeah instead of going up it went down even Xu Kai scandal thing was also not trending still it went down. It really shows plot sucks and fans are fighting within.
No one wants to watch a drama with sml having so much timeline. I think "Midnight Returns" is a bit boring.…
You need a solid character for audience to have second lead syndrome. He doesn't have an aura or a character. He isn't even a gray character but a pure evil one. With so much timeline he has, obviously no one will like him and drama will always be boring.
They were hoping this drama will cross 27000 popularity index last Sunday by missed this mark and got 26981. So everyone was optimistic it will cross this mark this Sunday but it's even lower 26700 something.
I think his agency sucks. He always get less screen time in every drama even he is first billed. Yu Zheng is really a hypocrite. He promotes his every artist except Xu Kai. Even a male centered plot was messed up by his agency and now he might have to share main role with other actor for his upcoming drama.

No one wants to watch a drama with sml having so much timeline. I think "Midnight Returns" is a bit boring. After thirty episodes, it feels like nothing really happened. The plot is a bit too thin. There's something going on in each episode, but nothing major. When I try to recall the storyline, I can't recall anything. And I'm so fed up with the plot of Wu Zi Shu. Why is he so boring and has so many scenes? I don't want to see him at all. Only Xiao Snake and Mei Si's plot is cute.
So, finally today everyone is fighting on weibo, who is the cause of drama's failure? Xu kai, Tian Xiwei or Second lead. While actual reason is screenwriter.
This plot sucks. Especially at later half. They wasted all the potential. If they have sticked to the novel this could have been one of best drama of 2025.
Looks like producers want to promote SML with this drama. Zhu Zhentiang character was actual sml in novel they changed that. Still literally no one is paying attention to him. 😂
