But now, i am pleasantly surprised, so it can be that way too: after the broadcast

yess that's why she is the dowager ( widow of a late king or Emperor that has her son upon the throne) and they still hold some power. And they are usually in charge of the harem ( selecting consort and so on) but this one holds much more power than what i usually see in dramas.

Yess someone told her earlier that it's kind of retribution the fact that as soon as her son was Emperor he had gotten sick; because of what she had done ; which were very bad things, in order to put him upon this throne;
