I am scared now to read every original works, before watching the drama/movie. It's inevitable that there will be some formes of disappointment about adaptation. just look at here.

And another point, there is no guarantee, that the world will be better with HC or FLX even if one wins. Realistic (it needs sacrifices, harsh battle ) or utopian . But it's not the end yet. Since:
May be HC will rule but people will suffer more , who knows ?
May be FLX doesn't use the right strategy to win the world, but he could give better life to people as a ruler

🤗🤗 let me tell you something. i love more too: gray ML, in GBMP i didn't manage to hate LiChengYin (the switch , the character development was consistant for me , even when he killed Xiao Feng's family: he was taken aback by his brother's plan to conquer Danchi earlier than expected, furthermore he witnessed how Danchi enslaved his people and so on). I love Commander Tan, Ashile Sun .....
Gray ML is more human , more realistic.
On the other hand, some of us read novel, watch drama, because we want to dream sometimes and, be out of the reality too.
So i am not complaining if there are perfect ML character sometimes , and Yang Yang fits the role well. I am new when it comes to him so his character here is good enough for me

Of course not everyone would like him that way, since the taste is different to begin with.

i think you will like the drama more then

"his image looks so bad" ?? not in everyone's eyes
He received so much praise with his performance ep28 for exemple (it was a trend for few days)
And he earned me at least, i was impressed too, he is now among my top actors, thanks to this drama

I can't blame actors/ actresses who don't want to play a gray ML /FL character (or anti-hero type)
because unfortunately fans or viewers don't dissociate Characters from Actor/actress
It's risky for them, it can destroy a career.

Not everyone would like to play a Li Cheng Yin (Goodbye my princess) and for information: the original cast of GBMP were people more famous, but they withdrew because of the characters by fear.
And, what's sad? Chen Xing Xu received so much hate after this drama, even today people are not fond to watch his other works. (he earned the nickname of "dog" after GBMP 😭😭)
And some who saw him in "Fall in Love" : Commander Tan Xuanlin ,drama 2021 were terrified too 🤣🤣🤣 That's how fans/viewers react, it's sad
But the good point: CXX doesn't care, he wants to improve himself/ challenge so he keeps taking these rich/difficult/gray ML roles.

Yess, i as said we miss something , greater performance, but it's understandable
And much more fans and viewers enjoy/like the perfect ML character too. some even hate misunderstanding plot between FL and ML in a drama. others like more angst ......and so on

i often see , people who read the novels being angry against all the directors of these drama, they said the drama were ruined.
In Untamed, yesss : i don't know will all the comments, if you could read it.
But go, to Chu YUI BUn profil (director of Ashes of love, The Long ballad and so on), and read the comment about how people are mad, i mean for who read the novel. because for who didn't read, they enjoyed his dramas and quite love him

ahh ok it's more clear now. But what you are saying is the destiny of all novel transformed in movies/dramas. With a novel, it's our imagination that works more (and there are infinity possibility), in a movie/drama it's visual. the consequence? it's more complicated: for example something exciting in novel can be boring when it become reality (video i mean) and vice versa.
I had this experience with Harry Potter: i saw the movie before the novel, and i liked it so much i was satisfied, and then i read the book : i feel like it's better. for the next volume i read the book before then watch the movie, i was disappointed by the movie and so on.

The visual of the scene today, was just gorgeous for me and consistent since i didn't read the book.

It's impossible to put everything from a the novel in a movie. they have to choose and make all thing to fits well , even if it has to give another or a little different message.

What will catch your attention when you read, might not catch your attention when you see it visually. it's hard to transform novel==> movie/drama

But i can understand your frustration because they switched roles.
So in the novel he is kind of anti-hero (but a light one??)
The thing with the anti-hero role , not everyone want to play them because, it's risky i mean it can destroy a career. (i can understand the actor who don't want to play it, but it's really a pity at same time because we miss something good)

I heard that in Ashes of love, they embellished Xufeng's character (because he was more arrogant in the novel, and actually he raped JinMi in reality in novel, but in the drama they changed it) and they tarnished Run Yu (he was even more likable in the novel)

yess exactly , he wanted to rule the world but with different means.
and when HC and him played the chess (for the husband competition) The two wanted to rule the world but the two were completely different. the one favors attacks the other favors defense and so on. HC is more brutal

Since it's his character from the beginning of the drama, it's normal to have this same character for this end then.
If he has YWY character in the beginning and FLX's character at the end , it would be weird and vis versa.
I didn't read the novel, and everything fits well in my eyes.
The fact that you read the novel , it's detrimental
