my experience taught me that better watch the drama first than read the novel..you will have some disappoint matter…
for me, it was the essence of both ML and FL. Like He Yan and Xiao Jue, I enjoyed how they always trusts and had each other's back. Even when everything is showing that the other party may be betraying them, they hold tight to that trust. BFTB destroyed that trust. There was constant misunderstandings and they failed me to make cheer for them, tbh. Plus, they added a new villain when the ones they had are already great to start with it. it really renders the adaptation pointless to me.
In LOTFM, even with the changes they've made, it made sense as the drama is short and didn't have the time to expand on every details. Even with the merging characters, story arcs, etc, it flows more naturally. Even with the few episodes of angst between HY and XJ, it made sense. After all, unlike the novel where XJ already restored his family's innocence and honor and it's been a few years since, the reveal in the drama came when his wounds are very much fresh. But he also doesn't mope around with this and figured the truth out himself. I wish BFTB was the same. Which is a shame since i love the casting for then leads. I thought they were perfect. wish the script was the same.

I've learned that now with Prisoner of Beauty. Did not enjoyed back from the Brink cause i loved the novel so much and hated all the unnecessary changes. At least the changes in this one makes sense.
100% agreed. he's very level headed too, so the fact that he could release this kind of emotion on her is also…
Exactly! even the book, where ML already proved himself to everyone around him at the beginning of the novel, he was still suffering from the trauma of not only loosing his parents at a young age and having to reclaim their family honor, but also the pain of being unable to be close and express the real him to his family members. Just like He Yan, he was always on the outside looking in and unable to feel like he belonged.
Even more, in the drama, the trauma and pain are FRESH. Like they literally just happened to him a few months ago (unlike the book where it's already been a few years). So of course, learning her identity and having always associated her other identity with the person that betrayed him and his father will be hard for him to process.
Cheng Lei seriously impressed me. I was already acquainted with Zhou Ye from many other projects I really liked,…
The first time i saw him was in The Queen's Attack, when he was a still pretty much new. I didn't recognize that it was him in there until this drama. But the first time he impressed me was he was also playing the role of a general ML in Familiar Stranger. It was a mini drama but something about him just stayed with me. Everything about Familiar Stranger is good, but he just stook out so much to me. So when I found out he was playing a general again and in my favorite novel, I'm super hyped. And got to say that he did not fail me. he's perfect as XJ with his micro expressions, acting, and aura.
I've never been a type of fan that obsessed over looks, but there just something about his man that I can't help but want to stare at his face all day.
In my humble opinion, I think XJ was not angry because of she was once HRF. But because he has already feelings…
100% agreed. he's very level headed too, so the fact that he could release this kind of emotion on her is also a show that he loves and trusts her too.
Well, after today’s episodes, I finally have an inkling Chu Zhao may not be all that evil. He is patriotic and…
I just recently caught up to ep 17, and I'm with you on this. He's been collecting evidence of his teacher's embezzlement, fake the death of some victims (Lei's brothers), etc. Time will tell if he's doing this for insurance and leverage or with the intention to expose him. Or both. He might even be planning to use this as his stepping stone.
From the book, he redeemed himself somewhat, so I'm leaning toward him exposing the truth. What I'm hoping for is that he won't be force to sacrifice his maid like in the novel. She's the only character that has his best interests at heart.
Did HY/HRF had a deputy general? Or was it Ding Yi under HRF? Im just curious
I think she does, but they're dead since HRF had them killed during that Mingsha's battle. He schemed to kill everyone that worked under her before so that there won't be any suspicions when he took over.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but from these two stills, it looks like we will get some after marriage life? I know that we're getting a wedding, but we don't know if that will be at the very end after everything is resolved, like more adaption does.
TBH, that's what I'm worried about the most for the show because I love their dynamics after marriage and is really looking forward to seeing it on screen. Lots of my drama adaptations tend to disappoint me on this point.
Sighhh the iconic scene! That was one of the most suspenseful and exciting parts of the novel. So satisfying.…
Acutually, in the book, a huge reason why XJ was able to recognize her is bc her skill were taught by him. Thus, lots of her moves were derived from his moves. So this is actually is in line with the story and helpful to his recognition of her. And yes, I wish they kept that part in the show. I loved how she won back her honor.
I am not ready for the misunderstanding 😭😭😭 please get over with it soon 😭
i know! i will not be watching tomorrow and wait till Saturday to push through it. besides, I'm only on ep 11, so I will still have something to catch up to. Even in the book, this part was hard for me to read.
Because even the military wife or gf would like to present to their significant other something they especially…
I agree 100%. And even in the book, XJ has always been stronger than her. Even she admits it herself. that's why she looks up to him, even when they were still classmate. He was the epitome of what she hopes to be herself and through that, she worked 100 times as hard to get there. I believe this idealization is what ended up turning into romantic feeling with them spending more time together and she realized that soft interior beneath all that coldness and detachment he shows others. Even more, the reason why she joined his army in the second lifetime rather than others is because she knew he was strong enough to help her attain what she wants.
I've caught up to episode 7. Still behind but I really like how the actor portrayed He RuFei so well. What a spineless and self-righteous man. She's the reason why the family is enjoying all that glory. where does he get that it all comes from him?!

He proprise it as a way to drive wedges between xj and hy and make xj looks incompetent to his men.
