I didn't like that he made Babe cry but I understood why he didn't tell Babe. Ain't no way Babe would have been able to make his grief believable enough for Tony to buy Charlie's death. Plus, we all know Babe wouldn't have agreed or allowed Charlie used himself as lab rat for a drug still being developed.
