I think that was one of the things the drama did. Most often in Chinese Dramas, to provide uniqueness to the plot, writers make the characters have unique jobs but don't take it's responsibility. The character seems insincere because he/ she doesn't take his job seriously, doesn't give some insight on that profession, doesn't seem logical and sometimes ruin the whole plot because the premise itself was based on that profession. But this doesn't seem unnatural. Even though the profession was somewhat new, they did enough work and the meeting of MCs doesn't seem forced because of their acquaintance and one sided crush

Does it matter? Everybody has a job, they have to do. If they are not good, they should improve.
