historians throughout chinese history wrote chinese myth as part of the history. one did not prevail over the other one, they completed each other. plus it's not just "pure fiction", it's a legend, regarded as one of china's four great folktales. it is an historical story who still has influence to this day.
this movie is meant to be a triller blockbuster. there was good powerful scene, good plot, good acting but the visual and storytelling was a bit clumsy.
i kinda liked it because building up the heavy atmosphere roaming around the house mattered ; what’s this weird family all about ? what’s the secret each of them is hiding? the core elements of a good story was there but it lacked technique to fully convey it.
i think a great movie is one making you emotionally involved from start to end, your heart going up and down with the story, the movie was lacking this. the first part was ok, but the second kinda lost us; because it was rushed.
overall it was a okay movie, plot surprised me wasn’t expecting it. i would gladly watch a remake of this story because it has potentiel.
in the beginning of the movie, they missed a chance to make us really feel the horror of the accident. they were too shy to show an atrocious yet powerful scene of all the child’s body piled up in the bus, blood everywhere. they just showed shy blurry scene we saw nothing idk if it was a censure but it would’ve balanced out the subtle reaction of the bus driver. it also could’ve conveyed the atrocity of the accident and make us feel empathy, making us involved emotionally. i think a great movie is one making you emotionally involved from start to end, your heart going up and down with the story, the movie was lacking this. it lost us in the second part lmao
personal point of view, but the dad’s hair annoyed me, it looked greasy, too much wax.
the house could’ve been better, more grandiose, elegent, and cold. although i did liked the plan with the aquarium closing up, when the ‘parents of a deceased a student’ came over while the bus driver was eavesdropping, the sound it made and the timing was good. still the house was such an key aspect of the story but the decor was too absent. it’s the core plot, the ‘home’ who brought them together, the home they’re trapped in but they did a poor job.
i enjoyed how the mother went crazy in the dads study and how they all came back to the table as if nothing happenned.
the idea of them becoming a family after being brought together in such an unique way was an interesting plot. it was the movie’s strong point. you wouldn’t think of them as family, their bond seemed weak and forced but no-the sibling (the scene of the sister helping tie her brother’s shoes was a smooth move- she hated him but still looked out for him). the bus driver coming back, the mother staying for the girl and rejecting the man
they had good ideas but the end was rushed. it broke the story’s pace. suffocating us with all those informations like a magician telling us his tricks too soon.
it was meant to be a triller blockbuster. there was good powerful scene, good plot but it was clumsy, cinematically weak, not enough theatrical effect.
the style was basic, the vision wasn’t grand enough, they weren’t burning to make us live this story or didn’t had enough skill to. could’ve been more artistic.
