When I was a kid, I would scare myself when I am sleeping because my imagination would go wild. I agree that the traumas faced would have required CYY and JZ to become scheming for their survival but their kids are well protected and loved by parents. Howeverrrrr, even if the parents are nice and give them love I actually think this will add to their strength. Besides the Chen family and Ji family would be so envied and surrounded with people trying to take them down so that would make them develop their scheming little brains too.

So after that ending (I have made my peace now tho), I was still inside of the a splendid match world and was daydreaming about what happens to these story characters. I know in the novel GJZ and CYY have a son etc. But for the sake of my daydreaming I have switched their eldest child to a daughter and totally ship the emperor with CYY's daughter.
Right after the ending now, emperor and CYY have a lot of work to do to reform the country. As years pass by, the Chen family and Ji family are as prosperous and powerful as ever. Emperor hasn't even come of age so there are no pressures to have an empress or what not and he is too busy with reforms anyway once he comes of age.
One day, young miss Chen catches his eye and he wants to make her his empress. Emperor asks for a private meeting with CYY and GJZ to discuss making their daughter his empress out of respect for CYY and GJZ and doesn't strongarm them. But both oppose. GJZ will definitely oppose because of how her mother was treated by his father's concubines. And, CYY also opposes because he is all too familiar with palace intrigue and how dangerous it. I imagine CYY and GJZ's daughter to also be a schemer with her mother's personality. CYY is so smug at times and so is JZ so unrestrained. Together, I imagine her daughter to be prideful yet kind because the Chen family might be so powerful and rich at this point I doubt the daughter will find even a suitable match in the capital and she does not want to be tied down in the palace so she rejects the Emperor as well. Thereafter, they have a bunch of entanglements and what not and eventually fall in love and she becomes empress. somebody write fanfiction for me please.
I think Ye Xian giving the Ye family army insignia to CYY and gifting it to him in his letter to GJZ is also relevant in my daydreaming. CYY always admired Marquis Ye Xian's father. So he decided to keep the name of Ye army as the official name of a newly formed elite garrison. CYY and GJZ have two sons after the eldest daughter. One of the sons has special millitary talent, archery, sword skills and dun dun millitary strategy. He now commands the Ye army. And the last son, has a talent for scholarship and follows his dad's example to become a minister with a principled heart eventually entering the cabinet as well.
Ji Yao is such a nice character I lowkey ship him with CYY's sister Yan Ying like why the hell not lol. Before people come at me you did not need to read this this is my comment and I can ramble whatever I want please don't fight me I will cry"
awww!!! thank you thank you! Actually, on reddit I created something like an epilogue there from my daydreaming thoughts about the characters and surprisingly people told me to take the leap go for it and write fanfiction wait let me post it here for you. I took their advice and went to the drawing board to write fanfiction I am developing the story very slowly tho because I have never written fanfiction before.
also just thought of one more thing chen yanyun offering comfort to Jinzhao at the time of grieving Ye Xian would also have been a nice touch like him holding her shoulder even
me toooo omgg I totally understand you are bestfriends and honestlyyy Ye Xian is her what is commonly called "twin flame" albeit platonic but your HUSBAND who IS THE LOVE OF YOUR LIFE has returned BARELY ALIVE from a war that was IMPOSSIBLE to win and you don't even hug him when he arrives or get up when he COLLAPSES BTW. My issue is not her crying for Ye Xian my issue is when Chen YanYun collapses she doesn't go to him. I really like Ye Xian's character and her friendship with Jinzhao and great brotherhood between Chen YanYun and Ye Xian. He deserved that moment of grieving and respect. I just felt that if my husband collapsed I would get up.
yes certainly not crap! I have SOOO MANY gripes with the final ending in episode 40 but like ONE example is when they reunite he kisses the forehead righttt. I was like what are you her father? her elder? why are you kissing on the forehead after not being able to find her and thinking something happened to her. I would have eliminated that forehead kiss because there is no time for kissing when Fu Hailian's mansion is burning down. Even if it ended at the point where they get out of the mansion if they kissed there that would have been a better ending. BUT despite my complains I FREAKIN LOVE THIS DRAMA. I forgive the ending and made peace with it.
I like to go for a drama without any expectations and not knowing anything like plot or tropes or even the casting LOOLL. SO believe me when I saw both Wang Xing Yue and Liang Yong Qi in this drama I was so hyped and shocked because I had watched perfect match few months back I was like what now is WinWin going to show up too. Did these two go from filming The double to Perfect match just straight up like that. I watched perfect match first tho and loved both WXY and LYQ in them. However, I know LYQ is playing a villain role in this one. They cannot make me hate you tho LYQ you are Haode's cute sweets loving husband.

she is like a jinx in the best way possible basically!!! I have a theory that if GJZ wasn't involved with CYY he would have taken down his mentor much later when the emperor is more in power and older, but her involvement with CYY just accelerated that plotline.
