The ML is the villain. The FL's mother used her love for her child to reconcile with a VILLAN. A man like this will never change. This is just TOXIC. This is the second Lakon with a toxic family rewording unacceptable and criminal behaviour from the ML. The first was rape, kidnaping and torture of the ML and this even has kidnapping and emotional manip[ulation of a child (this is in DSM-V) Too much for me.

Actually, in this drama (I did not love it) I think the fight makes sense and also the break up. I see your point, sometimes the break up or separetion is artificial (break the mood) and the also get together artificially at the end like Tears in Heaven (this was such a disapoitment, the have quemestry and the break up also makes sense but it was too long and cruel with the FL that ruin the drama for me). On the other hand, a not break up drama is difficult to achive without being boring. In some cases they use the evil mother in law, the thrid party but people who does not want break up, also do not like thrid parties. So how you move the story foward. Normally, they get together way late, the story is not focus on the romance but their profetional life, and this is also boring, so normally people skip episodes to only watch their interation. An example of this is My Glory. (I loved it, no break ups and a nice and clean story) however, the gaming was boring (I am not the only one on this, the same with the space drama).
