hmm.. i'm not too sure how I feel about this one. I'm on episode 5 atm and for some reason, it feels like there…
Thing is the cast is quite large and a lot is being packed into one-hour episodes. Some people might like the fast-pace, but others might feel that something is lacking. Like we are missing pieces of the story. I get the feeling that perhaps the episodes were actually longer and Disney+ made some cuts.
Well I'm no professional critic like some people here it seems, but I like the drama and I like the acting. I have been on a kdrama slump for a long time tbh. I've dropped more dramas than completed in recent years, but I have hopes for this one!
What I like about this drama so far, is the big young cast and the chemistry the actors have. There is some light romance building up, some bromance, a lot of friendship, characters with very different personalities, conflicts that don't drag for longer than 2 episodes, and a lot of silly humor so I think there is a good balance. Rookie Cops is not going to win any award for best script though. It's not that type of big production drama, it's not free from some cliches, and the FL is questionable. But as a light comedy youth drama, I think it's fun and it works (so far).
The ML is one of the most likable characters. He is reserved like a lot of MLs but for a change he is not cold or mistreats the FL, and he actually works as the voice of reason and calmness. I think Kang Daniel is doing a pretty good job at portraying a caring ML. However, he does feel more like a supportive role, especially in the first 4 episodes as the story revolved mostly around Eunkang, and whenever his character was around, it was to advise, save or support the FL silently from the shadows. I love a supportive man, but at the moment it feels a little unbalanced and unfair to his character. KD's acting though, I think has improved in the most recent episodes. I felt he was a little stiff in some of the serious scenes from the first two episodes, but by episode 5 and 6, he feels much more natural and his eyes have more spark during the more intense scenes. I also have to praise his action scenes. For a first time, he doing a really good job with those. Chae Soobin is also doing wonders with the character she was given. If any other actress was playing Eunkang, I don't know if I would tolerate some of her actions, so kudos to her! In her case, it's more obvious when a stunt double is doing her action scenes, but I will also praise her effort because I don't think Soobin is the athletic type.
Since this drama is not fully focused on the two leads, the other young actors sometimes have equal screentime as the mains, which I personally enjoy. In particular, I really like Park Sung Joon as Daeil, playing the comedic character that probably has the most lines, and Cheon Young Min as Ahri, a character that hasn't shown the most loyality but that I find the most interesting among the female characters. I didn't watch any of Park Yoona's previous dramas so I'm new to her. She seems to be one of the more experienced young actors in the cast, however her character doesn't stand out as a second female lead to me and her portrayal feels one dimensional so far. But I'm hoping to see more of her in upcoming episodes.

I am. I really like it so far. The first episode introduces the characters, but mainly the two leads, so Yoona doesn't appear a lot. When she does appear though, her interactions with Ah Ri (Cheon Young Min) are quite funny because they are complete opposites. Yoona's character is very stoic and mysterious. She is borderline anti-social I would say. Her character has an unexpected plot twist during the last 5 minutes of episode 2 though, which ends on a cliffhanger. You should watch it! :D
I still think she is not going to be involved in any love triangle. Her character is definitely going to have more depth imo. But, now that I watched the first two episodes and all the trailers, I don't think there is going to be any love line with Shinyoung either. The drama ended up having some dark moments that make it more interesting that if it was all fluffy and cute. It has a good balance, I think.
I was told PU has training in the first episodes so that will be similar I guess. But this cast has only young actors in the main roles and it has been heavily promoted as a youth drama so I hope is stays like that.
i'm gonna be watching this for park yoona, but i'm HOPING she won't be the sfl and have her own partner in this…
I think she is the SFL but not in a romantic sense. I don't think she will be part of a love triangle with the leads, but rather have her own story. There has been no hint to any love triangle tbh. But since she has a mom in the drama, unlike the rest (except the leads ofc), to me it looks like her story is going to have certain protagonism. IF her character has any romance involved, it might happen with Lee Shinyoung's character. But since this is a coming-of-age drama, I think it's going to be more about growing up and friendship, and less about romantic conflicts.
if you guys are here for watching youna you should help support her on twitter her currently only active fanbase…
Maybe the admins could get some extra help if they can't update it often? From the top of my head there are a few Rookie Cops updates that could have been shared or retweeted by her fanbase, like article translations from Soompi and other big/verified sites, also clips and TikTok videos that have gotten some attention. I wish her and her fans good luck. Hope this drama is a success for everyone involved.
