Good theory, but i feel that characters were not fleshed out enough to make sense what they wanted to do... they didn't feel fully human to me.. like i can't write what is character difference between them, other than their family situation... so they could as well be the same person...

Or because he was leaving he wanted Ling Zi to hate him so their parting wouldn't be so painful? - friends pushing each other boundaries - (Like my friends pushing me to make a jump - when i was momentary freaked out and decided to not do it. I was mad like hell but after i calmed down i was kinda thankful to her for forcing me to do it) It still went too far?

Because it's just boring. There is nothing bad in this show - because nothing much happen at all. Which can also be good - in the last 2 week i was dealing with a lot of anxiety - so this kind of show had really calming effect on me.
