The 2005 P & P is also my go-to adaptation to watch when I’m longing to see Lizzie and Mr. Darcy but have no 6 hours or so to spare for the series. Indeed, those traits of Mr. Darcy perfectly describe Shi Yan. Lizzie herself misunderstood Mr. Darcy’s reserved nature as a sign of rudeness, so it’s not surprising that Shi Yan’s reserved nature plus his elegant bearing has been mistaken for stiffness
1995 BBC version of Pride and Prejudice is the best. And yes those drama is very good. The characters are quirky…
lol i can discuss P & P every day. i feel happy recalling scenes from that series 😁. i’d like to do this for OFL too. if only haters would allow us to enjoy it in peace
You wrote my thoughts exactly. The thing is that you can never satisfy humans, our wants and needs are diverse.…
i agree. in fact, SY and ZSY have been talking seriously about topics they both care about. their minds are bonding, even while hesitating to fully open up their hearts to each other. i think these haters are not really watching the drama
You're not the only one making Mr. Darcy comparisons :D
lol the similarity is so striking 😁 and Shu Yi reminds me of Bridget in Bridget Jones’ Diary that also stars Colin Firth, Mr. Darcy in P & P, this time as Mark Darcy. 😁
Shi Yan's shower scene in an early episode reminded me of Mr. Darcy's dip in the lake in the 1995 Pride and Prejudice. It titillated a lot of viewers 😄 When I saw him looking dapper in the riding clothes, the similarity of their appearance and personalities struck me
Don't get me wrong I love both leads in this drama. It's the script that's killing , nothing against the actors.
the quality of writing in this drama is not worse than many cdramas I've watched, some of which have become big hits. considering the many cdramas with bad writing that have become blockbusters, i thought bad writing in cdramas has already been accepted by fans. But I wouldn't even lump OFL among those with bad writing because I find the story and characters quite interesting. I've dozed off while watching some "big hits". I'm lapping up every episode of this drama.
It's official, Shi Yan is Cdramaland's Mr. Darcy 😄. His elegant carriage and his curt and taciturn nature (unfortunately mistaken for "stiffness" by haters), the dashing way he looks in riding clothes and his passion for one woman he is struggling not to love but is hopelessly devoted to, harken back to the hero of Jane Austen's novel 🥰
Omg, I loved The Crown and 1995 Pride and Prejudice! The last one is a masterpiece in my opinion. Mr Darcy is…
That’s why I love Dylan’s portrayal of Shi Yan. He reminds me of Mr. Darcy. Haters keep criticizing Shi Yan as being stiff. In fact, Matthew Macfadyen’s portrayal of Mr. Darcy in the 2005 film adaptation is much more stiff.
Shi Yan’s shower scene reminds me of Colin Firth’s Mr. Darcy taking a dip in the lake 😁
When you have biases, especially if you like other actors and watch a cdrama not featuring your faves with a closed mind, you would find something to criticize about that drama. Because no cdrama is perfect.
I have never watched a cdrama as perfect as The Crown or the 1995 British mini series Pride and Prejudice. And I'm sure there would be those who would criticize my examples of drama perfection because that's how different people's tastes are. Case in point, I'm not a fan of Game of Thrones which a lot of people adore.
I watch cdramas because they entertain me. Especially those with sweet, titillating romance that I hardly find in US productions anymore.
And Only For Love entertains me immensely. I like how quirky the characters are but lovable. None of them is perfect. They each have their own idiosyncrasies. Shu Yi has that revenge thing going on that makes her act erratically. Shi Yan is struggling with his feelings for Shu Yi, making him unpredictable. Shi Yue is a stalker. Yu You sometimes rejects her, sometimes leads her on. Guan Ji and Shanshan can't decide whether to stay free or commit to each other.
Just like in real life. Who among us is perfect? So why should we expect drama characters to be perfect and act the way we want them to? The writer has a right to create original characters. But the funny thing is, if a story is original, there would be people who would criticize it for not conforming to certain conventions. If a story is familiar, there would be people who would criticize it for being unoriginal and cliche.
When people want to criticize, they would find something to criticize, even things that just exist in their heads.
Dylan does't possess much facial expressions in his acting, even his body language is stiff. I know he is supposed…
One thing i've noticed with Asian drama actors is their tendency to overact. So I suppose fans have gotten used to that kind of acting. Dylan does not overact. I find his acting elegant, that's why he is one of a few Asian actors I can stand.
'just completed another 36-episode cdrama where the couple first kissed almost at the end of the series, around ep 34 or so and it was okay.
I guess the explosive chemistry between Bai Lu and Dylan is making us all antsy 😁
It seems Shiyan and Shu Yi are finally getting together in ep 19-20. The episodes are being released at 13.14 on 11/11. 13:14 means forever or for a lifetime
I felt their chemistry from their first meeting. not just physically. they're well matched in intelligence and interests too
Shi Yan’s shower scene reminds me of Colin Firth’s Mr. Darcy taking a dip in the lake 😁
