Fairly sure it's based on a novel which most shows are, I just don't know where or what it's originally called.

I remember enjoying this show, I tried rewatching it at one point, but the issue nowadays is the episode count is WAAAAAAAAAY too high.

I would rewatch this again in a heartbeat if it was condensed down to the 40 episode cap.

I could probably do with a episode list that can cut out filler episodes.

this show is basically a live action version of the donghua called Martial Master, which currently has 555 episodes.

If you're interested in the story itself, then you can continue with the animated Donghua, of course it's not high budget, it's a low budget short format show, but it has nearly half the episode count of the One Piece anime lol.

As far as I can tell from all the episodes, at the very first episode, when he went through the lightning tribulations, he has been gathering a previous 99 attempts of that heaven lightning power, as it accumulates it stays with him in his soul or something.

So in his reincarnation to a new body, he already had that power stored within him from his previous life, but his new body had no Dantian, which connects him fully with this power source, he could only take fractions of that power to use.

By the near end of the show, the people around him helped him gather ingredients for a rare pill that allowed him to re-create this Dantian he needs to start accessing it.

By the end of the show, he finally used it to fully utilize the 99 levels of Lightning Tribulation, this accumulation of power allowed him to directly access his previous powers in his old life and directly ascend as soon as his Dantian was recreated.

I personally really enjoyed this show, I really hope it continues, there's so much more potential for a proper full show and not just a short format one.

Great comedic timing and all the actors fit their characters so well, I wish for all the best that this show gets another season and not only that, a full blown production of at least 20 minute episodes instead of the 10.

Or at the very least, double the episode count, because there's so much more potential this show can have.

I smelt the train wreck this was going to be because of the rather poorly written female lead by the 2nd episode.
