Quoting you last line: "It's funny...whenever there's a series with a low score I end up liking. If it has a high score I question it because most of the time if it involves a male lead it will get a high score because of how the guy looks. Some reviewers should be ashamed of themselves for that."
Yeaaaaaaaaaaaah, that is exactly what happens with me, that I started to pick middle rated dramas and give them a try.

To put it simple, He is a legendary actor. Aside from his looks, he really seems like he is not treating acting as a career or a job, in my opinion its a passion of his, he likes to challenge himself in every role.
The research he does on his role preparation, seems to pay always at the end. The clear difference between his role in antique bakery and HPL is a good example on that. Min Seon-Woo VS Ryan Gold, is a clear evidence on his talent and hard work.
Also he seems to respect his career, he didn't fall in trap of working on whatever projects (and they are many but the quality not always the best).
His selectivity of the roles is another indicator of how he really cherish what he does. This makes me always sure of any project he is involved in, that it worth my time and that I will be provided the best experience.(though for me as a fan I miss him when he disappears).
I believe that in such industry its really hard to keep the quality of your work.
Many actors are under the pressure of other aspects like the constant appearing on the screen, either by choosing work that is poor in script-writing or appearing in variety shows. However he managed to do so, fighting all the known conventional in that industry.
I truly wish him the best, and hope he keeps enjoying what he does, as he seems to be the person to deliver his best when he likes it (which is truly rare these days among all the mediocrity ) and this in return reaches me when I see him on the screen.
