The ban didn’t come from the government, but from the director (I already mentioned this before). And those dramas you mentioned (UTS, FOF, MLS) all had male and female leads, or they were originally just bromance stories. This drama, however, is an adaptation of a BL novel. The situation is different, you see? Compare it with other BL novel adaptations like Immortality, Chasing the Light, and Justice in the Dark. And don’t compare it with small-scale projects. Those dramas didn’t come out from Mainland, that’s why this one got banned by the director (though we don’t know until when).

As for the rest, it’s all just unspoken rules. You know, when Zhang Xincheng was asked about JITD, he said he wasn’t allowed to talk about it—that alone makes things clear. You and I are both just waiting, hoping the drama will be released someday. I just want people who say “they only interacted because the drama couldn’t air anymore” to understand the truth. They did get banned before, and they’re also tied down by unspoken rules. It’s not just them—other BL adaptation dramas too. But the reason we still get to see their interactions is because their relationship is genuinely good, and they truly value the drama. It has nothing to do with whether the drama gets released or not.

This is black fan fiction! Both Tan Jian Ci and Chen Zhe Yuan were on same events over the years.
I’ve been following the two of them ever since this drama first started filming. Many of the things that happened back then aren’t known by people nowadays. The claim that they were banned just because of a video of them talking together isn’t some made-up story. Do you know how much backlash they faced every time they mentioned the drama in the beginning? They were attacked so harshly that even some of their own solo fans came to hate the drama.

But despite all that criticism, their love and respect for it never faded. You don’t often see these things shared in international fanbases, but if you really want to know, you can find it on Weibo.

This is one of the unspoken rules of the entertainment industry. It’s not just them — have you ever seen other actors from bromance dramas interact? Almost all of them weren’t officially banned, but they did get warnings.

But do you know why we could see TJC and CZY interact? It’s because they valued the drama and the characters too much. Among all the actors I’ve ever seen who acted in a bromance drama, they’re the only two who, without being told to, mentioned the drama on their own and genuinely cared about it — from the very beginning until now.

So if you ask whether they were banned, the answer is yes. But the reason we could still see them interact is that they loved the characters far more than they feared being banned.

Tan Jianci and Chen Zheyuan were indeed “banned.” This partly came from some issues on the production side while the drama was still being filmed. On top of that, since it was an adaptation of a famous novel, they had to face constant criticism and attacks from both the novel’s fans and anti-fans. Every day online, it was full of people cursing them. Because of that, the director decided to “ban” the two of them from appearing together in the same place.

Later on, since it was a BL drama, it also couldn’t be openly accepted in China. So both of them had to keep a low profile. Still, because they loved their characters so much, they would speak up about them from time to time even knowing they’d get attacked for it.

Now that both of them have become really popular, they no longer have to worry about pleasing anyone. They can openly interact with each other again. Normally, other actors in their situation would try to avoid stirring up trouble, but the two of them continue to treat each other in a very open and straightforward way.
