After he said as you wrote here "he said in an interview that he could fall in love regardless of gender" it's clear that he can fall for any gender (as he said), that mean he is not straight. He openly said it and he didn't have to. Its even consider better to not admit it even if you part of the LGBTQIAP+ community. So it was very brave and unnecessary. If he said it then its truth.
