In the novel, the Emperor was sick and 2 princes is doing a rebellion at the same time. He order DX to return to Nandu to ‘protect’ him but DX didn’t follow the decree because the war with Chong is already at its peak, if he retreat there is a possibility of losing all the city that they have conquered. Until the end, of rebellion, DX didn’t go back to Nandu so that’s why the Emperor create that decree. Petty I would say

nope, its just a pretend wedding so that he can help the bride be with her lover. and!!! its actually one of my favorite part of duan xu and simu love story, because its when their love story really start, simu no longer pushing duan xu away due to her fear of duan xu’s short mortal life :)

the real reason on her obsession in becoming a mortal is because she never live as mortal. she was born as a spirit, as someone who never know what it likes to see the world in color and etc. she was powerful yes, she was born for the throne yes, but does she enjoy it? no, it was always shown that she did not enjoy being the one in power but its her duty. every spirit lives with their obsession, like jiang ai with money and yan zheng with her revenge to her lover so is simu, so if there is a chance of her becoming a mortal why wouldnt she take it? with the other condition that she found a good candidate to replace her at the throne too of course, she wouldn’t leave the spirit world to ruin just to fulfill her obsession.

the wiping memory part is an additional part in the drama. also, in the novel, duan xu was shown very weak because of the exchange sense but I don’t remember him being old, it could be that in the drama the logic was he spent his life force due to the sense exchange hence he look older? but we will see
