> felt they packed a lot into it with the time jump but it wasn't really meaningful... them having that ceremony…
The heart of Episode 39 is actually, Lin Jin Qi’s emotional and ideological awakening. The time jumps highlight the sacrifices he made for the beliefs and path he once committed to. As the political landscape changes, so does his understanding of what truly matters.
So many friends tagged me today asking about the creative design behind Lin Jinqi's resignation and return home. This was honestly one of the hardest scenes to polish during early filming—we tweaked it so many times! Huge thanks to Tong Hua and Xiao Lou for the brilliant script design: three continuous scenes, zero dialogue. Just one long take of "walking" to tell the whole story of his transformation—from inner struggle to letting go of his identity, self-reflection, and finally, total release. We broke this silent journey into four emotional stages to build up to his final decision.
Stage 1: The Silence & Confusion. After catching the subtle signs of trouble, we left the audience with just a lonely back view against an eerie nursery rhyme. I purposely avoided close-ups of his face. At this moment, he's feeling everything—confusion, hesitation—all hidden in his silent steps. We didn't want to force the emotion on you; we wanted to leave space for you guys to interpret and feel it yourself.
Stage 2: The Harsh Reality. This is the core part that really hits hard. As Lin Jinqi leaves the palace, he has to face the true cost of power—the layers of sacrifice and bloodshed behind it. No special effects here, just the actor shooting these takes twice. It’s all about precise movement and raw acting. If you look closely, the scenes of violence he walks past actually echo a shot from the Gate of Mercy battle in Episode 35. My intention? To show that even though his career was smooth sailing, he walked on the sacrifices of countless others. Looking back, he starts to question: Is defending this court really worth giving up a lifetime of freedom and happiness? That doubt is why he resigns.
Stage 3: The Coldness of Success. We cut to him at the peak of his power. A solemn street, people making way, everyone looking up to him with respect. By worldly standards, he has it all. But the color grading is cold. The more honored he is, the emptier and more tired he looks standing there alone. He seems admired by thousands, but is actually trapped by fame and rules, unable to be free, with a heart full of desolation.
Stage 4: Freedom & Clarity. Back in Jinling. He takes off the official robes and drops the power—he's finally free from those heavy chains. His steps are light now. No more court drama, no more chasing fame. He sees the real world again and cherishes the peace around him. He truly understands Xu Lanxiang's philosophy: don't let empty fame weigh you down, live for your true self.
From confusion to clarity, this silent walk is Lin Jinqi saying goodbye to his old life and being reborn.
We designed the shots, but the soul comes from the actor. With no lines or plot crutches, Xueyi hid Lin Jinqi's depth and compassion in every glance and step. This silent return speaks louder than words. I'll always remember this defining moment for Lin Jinqi!
The brutality hidden in the nursery rhyme.. ep 39 is basically about LjQ’s emotional journey. Sunlight bright,…
The two halves of the nursery rhyme almost feel like two versions of him. The first belongs to the man who still believes that loyalty to the emperor, serving the country, and earning honor will lead to a meaningful ending.
The second belongs to the man who has finally seen the truth.
After resigning, he witnesses the bloodshed on his way home and realizes that the glory of Lingyan Pavilion is nothing more than an illusion. Beneath the palace walls are the bones of countless loyal people who sacrificed everything.
For 2 years walking his own path, finally, he lets go.
He no longer wants to be bound by the expectations of what a loyal subject should be. He chooses his family, the people he truly wants to protect.
And suddenly, the FL’s words make perfect sense: ‘We once walked different paths, but now our paths are the same.
The brutality hidden in the nursery rhyme.. ep 39 is basically about LjQ’s emotional journey.
Sunlight bright, moonlight bright, An ant’s nest beneath the locust tree brings the palace crashing down.
Those who don imperial robes and wear jade belts, who overturn yin and yang, they kill the old, they kill the young. Tigers at the front gate, wolves at the back.
Sunlight bright, moonlight bright, layer upon layer of corpses builds the palace walls.
They speak of rise and fall, of right and wrong, all of it is nothing but folly.
Only yesterday, he stood among the honored at Lingyan Pavilion; today, he is buried in a nameless grave.
Sunlight bright, moonlight bright, Epang Palace has burned to scorched earth, and fragrant grass now grows where it once stood.
They speak of loyal ministers, they speak of treacherous men, in the end, all become a dream.
Whether a loyal statesman or a celebrated general, all they leave behind is a single broken wall.
He keeps updating this post, adding comments with each episode. It offers an interesting insight that reveals…
i think that’s a different post- the one they calls the deceased husbands diary 😅, the above is an interview via cloud as some rednote users said, and found it were all in weibo, and yes he answered one question about that post being edited to 9x already 😂
Liu Xue Yi’s new project ‘China 1927’, A Major revolutionary themed drama. ✨✨✨
On September 30, Martyrs’ Day, the CCTV tribute drama China 1927 quietly held its launch ceremony at the Nanchang August 1st Uprising Memorial Museum.
Produced by China Media Group (CCTV) and jointly presented by Jiangxi Radio and Television, the drama will consist of 36 episodes and is scheduled to air during CCTV’s prime-time slot in 2027.
@Mr_刘学义 has officially joined the cast and will portray Zhou Enlai. This marks his first venture into a major revolutionary historical drama, stepping beyond the costume political-intrigue roles he has taken on in the past. It will be a significant departure and a challenging new chapter for him as an actor.
My guess is that Lanxiang needs to turn into a bird like in the opera she wrote? Precarious childbirth maybe?
my bad, this is ep 42 that they’re having their first child. butin ep 40, the marquis is asking what would LJQ choose if he were on his position. and LJQ answered unwaveringly.
My personal fave scene. That interaction in ep 32, He knew right away that only his wife would have the courage to pull off something like that and the way his eyes lit up when he sought her suggedtion, full of admiration and quiet acknowledgment of her capabilities, was everything.
