To answer op, casting is a serious matter and it really can make or break a drama. If you're investing hundreds of millions in a production, the least thing you can do is cast the right person for the right role.. but usually productions think they can get away with carrying favours as long as they get a big name that can garantee investment return from ads, distribution to international platforms or even merch..

Honestly it's unfair to let an obvious anti ruin the image of the actual fandom. I haven't seen any actual fan say bad things about the cast.

No one is promoting the drama as romance only. There is nothing wrong with being easy going instead of using fandom and popular actors to stroke one's ego. The average drama watcher doesnt care about the big big big male / female protagonist fandoms brag about. They just want to see a good drama. Some people will even see the actors for the first time. Antis on this app could see that no good can come out of this and that it's not doing the actors or the drama any good from miles away and that's
why they caught on it and are using it to ruin the whole comment section. Let people be excited for the drama. Let people want to click on it when it airs and believe me if it's a really good drama no one will feel disappointed about anything.

I know you mean well. But some of you guys REALLY REALLY don't know how to promote xiao zhan works to a wider audience.

I think ren min just couldn't afford to be zhu yan and get away with it. The character needed a more charismatic actress to get away with all the things zhu yan did in the drama and still be liked and get sympathy.
But ren min does best with inoffensive and pitiful characters which is the opposite of zhu yan.

Currently at episode 11 but it's probably gonna take forever to finish since i need to pause the screen and stare at wei wuxian more than once every single episode 😭 He looks so good wtf..

There is a difference between opinion and prejudice. The movie wasnt filmed yet.. we dont even know who will act in it.. we dont know how the story will go. We dont know if it will be filmed this uear or in 10 years... we dont know if the script is finished or not... Judging something that doesnt even exist is prejudice not an opinion..
