Simei is making me so angry in Ep 30 that if she was my own sister I'd have slapped her at least once to try to knock some sense into her. Risking herself needlessly by going to a SARS infected hospital to accompany that cheating scum sad excuse for a husband (who got sick because he was visiting his mistress) knowing full well she could be potentially leaving behind her young daughter? Baffling and so beyond selfish. I can't believe she has the gall to look her siblings in the eye after borrowing money from them to pay compensation on his behalf, because he hasn't been able to keep it in his pants for years.
This show is the opposite of healing drama. It's just full of bad decisions by decent people (Yicheng), or awful behaviour by awful people (Sanli's MIL, the siblings' father), and stressful + unfortunate things happening to good people (all of the bad situations forced upon our siblings). Sure the underlying bonds are heart warming but ... it makes me tired!
The sheer scuminess of the father aswell as Yicheng's bad choices are making this hard to watch. It's clearly a good drama as it makes me care this much about the characters but I might have to take a short break!
These are my favourite kind of couples! Other notable mentions are One Spring Night and Just Between Lovers. I love romances where you're not just told "They're made for eachother, they fell in love at first sight!" but instead you can see for yourself in the small moments why these two people would naturally grow to love eachother.
Not HP writers using the Noble Idiocy trope! I understand feeling guilty to hear your BF has been stressed and not willing to talk about it because you have other things going on, BUT the mature thing to do there is to have conversations with him where you say "I want you to honestly share your burdens with me too otherwise I feel like this relationship is one sided"- Junwan is smart enough that he'd listen to that. How does breaking up with him and convincing him you fell for someone else remove his burdens? It just adds another trauma for him to deal with? Come on Iksun you're supposed to be more mature than this! I'm rooting for this couple though, they're my fav pairing in the show.
Guys I read spoilers before starting this drama and the end episode sounds frustrating AF- do y'all recommend watching just the first 12 episodes and stopping or just avoiding lol?
I think they wrapped things up nicely enough, I'm glad to get some closure in terms of each characters professional arcs. Having said that, I can't say I'll ever rewatch this drama even though slow burn realistic melodramas are usually my favourite genre. The main leads never truly seemed comfortable enough with eachother over the progress of the relationship for me personally- they were even still using formal language with eachother after all this time.
I know there can be cold / tsundere male leads but I'm a few episodes in and this ML is going to have to do alot to grow on me cause rightnow he's just a childish bully. Whether it's sabotaging her study/ making her late/ even trying to trip the sick guy- wtf. Not attractive at all. I'm sure they're going to explain it all away as him liking her but not being able to express it openly but that doesn't justify being unnecessarily mean.
I actually kind of hope the main characters don't end up together- that would be evidence of better writing. If the writers were aiming to show the pitfalls of a 'nice from the outside' but actually disfunctional relationship they've done it- after however many weeks/ months of dating these two went through they never put down their walls and got past acting like strangers to eachother.
I'd love for the last few episodes to both of them make real genuine progress in their other aspects of their lives- Songah on both her self confidence and finding her route professionally and Joonyoung reconciling his resentment for his family + his instrument.
I enjoy slice of life and even some angst and melodrama but watching the last two episodes has just put me in the worst mood I've ever been in after watching a drama... just so depressing. Now to go find a cliche fluffy cdrama to make me feel better...
