Me too, I also had no idea it had some relation to real historical. I only knew this drama is based from a novel, just a fiction not real incidence.

But names of characters are real. Except they changed it from the real surname Zhu to Chu.

I had no idea too. The above mentioned historical persons I found it from Google ⇉ Wikipedia.

It only mentioned Bo Wang (referred as Zhu You Wen) did really exits and how he was murdered and died on when.

Didn't mentioned much like how old when he died or at what age, and when he was born.

Also didn't mentioned much like exactly in this drama.

And I don't think the real historical Bo Wang is like this character in this drama.

Simplified, I think this drama is a fiction story, but the names of some characters were indeed real existence in history.

I'm not 100% clear too how did Tang dynasty ended at the end.

It was once upon a time the most glorious, powerful and extremely rich dynasty.

Especially during Wu Ze Tian's era as the emperor's concubine, then she rose to a powerful empress.

After the death of her husband, she took control of the throne and was the first female emperor.

But near to the end of Tang dynasty, I'm not sure how it ended. Only I knew a little that, at the end of Tang dynasty, the empire did went into several dark and doomed years.

And the clan of Zhu (a family surname) did took over the dynasty for a very short period of years.

Indeed, part of this drama, especially the character's name & identity are real existences.
Example Chu Kui, in real he was referred as Zhu Wen, emperor Tai Zu of Liang empire. He murdered the last 2 emperors of Tang dynasty - Li Jie (emperor Zhao Zong of Tang dynasty) & Li Zuo (emperor Ai of Tang dynasty), from 903 - 907.

This bastard Zhu Wen died on 912, aged 59.

Not just a tyrant, barbaric warlord, robberer, murderer, also was a sex maniac, a notorious sexual predator that rapes not only the wifes of his officers, he also raped his daughter in laws.

Indeed he was murdered by his son Zhu You Gui.

And Bo Wang also did exited. Referred as Zhu You Wen, died on 912.

Yes, I think after 2nd time rewatch again, the best part is at episode 32. This, on my first watch, it shocked me too. I didn't expected or had a clue to guess it.

The rest of the episodes, arhhh ... Just bullshit. (Sorry to say this)

And yes, more of Bo Wang's personality disorder. I think if based on current era now, very highly Bo Wang had mental problem, falls under the category - OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder).

I'm dropping this drama now at episode 37.

Enough and really really fedup to see further more of Bo Wang.

After the war, as we all already know, Bo troops loosed, Bo Wang been ditch to slavery filed as punishment, Zhai Xing & Ji Chong got married, but I just don't understand Zhai Xing still can have such a "big heart" to accommodate Bo Wang again. Foolish & silly. (That's the plot of story is about) Yet both Zhai Xing and Ji Chong still goes to rescue Bo Wang out from the slavery filed and brought him back to Jing empire.

Pardon me of feeling selfish a little. I wish the storyline isn't as it is. I rather wish Zhai Xing to be happy or live happily ever after with Ji Chong. Cuz she deserves it, Ji Chong deserves it too. Supposed these 2 kind persons should be blessed with kind rewards from heavenly.

Doesn't mean a guy that knew him since childhood, will always and forever be her first and only man she love or must be with. People won't be the same forever, people changed over the times, and made serious mistakes and hurting.

This, totally effected my overall evaluation of this drama. Pile of bullshit.

The ones should be doomed are Bo Wang, Chu Kui, and the rest from Yang empire. Just hard to believe after so much of evil doings, still so lucky and unfairly deserves easy forgiveness.

Moreover, Zhai Xing shouldn't had died, shouldn't had gone saving 4th prince. It should be the responsibility of Bo Wang. Afterall, is his beloved step brother. Ain't Zhai Xing's.

She should have live her life happily with Ji Chong and both of them as promised, should be gone travelling around and be a pair of real couple, have children of their own.

Can you see at the village that had no mans, only womens (they are the windows of Ji Chong's generals 7 years ago been executed by Jing emperor), and the childrens and kiddies loved Ji Chong, Ji Chong carried one of them on his arm. That scene was so loving.

Only I wish is the son of Ji Chong & Zhai Xing's.
Damp it, that should be the way of life for both of them.

Bo Wang, should be cast out from the scene forever. Afterall, his life won't be long live, he already been poisoned. So why cares so much ? Saving him out of the slavery field is already the best and enough. What more he wants ?

That's why I felt from episode 43 onwards to 49, are real waste of time and the storyline somehow sounded like "went south". Ain't fit for this drama's conclusion.

Oh no, at episode 35, Ji Chong went into Zhai Xing's room to have a few personal words, then he kissed her. That part, they are not married yet.

It was Ji Chong drunk after he was having a meal with his father and eldest brother. His father encouraged him to go after or expressed his feelings to Zhai Xing if he really loves her.

The wedding is at episode 39 & 40, that was after the war between Bo troops (Bo Wang's troops) vs Jing & Ma's troops at a town called Bo Xiang. Later they referred it as Bo Xiang war.

And which part you mean about the wolf ? Which wolf ? The real white wolf or you're referring Bo Wang ?

After I rewatch it the 2nd time, I too felt the same. Somehow it just makes me feel this drama somewhere failed my expectations.
During first time watched, it did made me felt saddened the way Bo Wang treated Zhai Xing until the conclusion, she passed away in the arms of Bo Wang.

Second time rewatch again, (cuz there was some details missed out), this time I find myself not feeling so saddened but was more of pissed off with Bo Wang.

It's like re evaluate the whole drama again. I felt Bo Wang is a damp selfish, egoistic, arrogance and a stupid fool.

He can't decide who he really wanna be, awhile he just wants to be Zhai Xing's wolf boy all over again, next minute he change and wants to be the cold hearted Bo Wang. I understand it's hard for him, by the orders of the evil emperor Chu Kui his adoptive father. But I think Bo Wang is really blinded to differentiate what is right to do and what's wrong.

He had already knew Chu Kui's wicked intention, granted Zhai Xing to be his fiance is to used Zhai Xing to hold the Ma's troops. And in actual is a lie, Zhai Xing will never be marry to him but is just a hostage.

Yet, one after another one of opurtunities Bo Wang had, he didn't even think of a solution. If he really wants to protect her, there are so many ways he can plan for to send her off or reject Zhai Xing at once and for all, rather "playing" / deceiving again and again with her true feelings. This is really cruel and blunt.

Becuz of this, it makes me really pissed off. At the end of the tragic ending, I felt serve Bo Wang right. He deserves to be regretted. Zhai Xing's death was also part of his fault. Thou he too was about to die cuz he was been poisoned too.

That's why overall, I think Bo Wang is indeed the stupid fool bastard.

I'd rewatch again, confirmed on episode 32.

On episode 30, Bo Wang, 4th prince and 2 of his night furies they set their journey to Khithan's territory.

From Jing empire, Zhai Xing, Ji Chong and a few of the Ma troops escorted them to Khithan too.

Secretly followed along was, a maid of the previous Tang dynasty, the eldest princess Ping Yang's maid. She also was send by Jing emperor to Khithan help up Zhai Xing to reveal her royal heritage identity.

As for revealing Zhai Xing's royal heritage identity, all will be at episode 32.
This maid was indeed a survivor from previous Tang dynasty. After emperor of Jing discovered her, she was been secretly kept inside the palace of Jing. Even Ji Chong also don't know much about her.

She is not the real princess Ping Yang from previous dynasty. She is just princess Ping Yang's personal maid. That's how she knew most of the passed incidence happened when Chu Kui massacred the entire royalties.

Jing emperor kept her in the palace was hopefully one day, if should Zhai Xing will join in to Jing empire, this maid can be a witness and told her what actually had really happened.

The real Ping Yang princess was indeed Zhai Xing's biological mother, and was rescued and hide at general Ma Ying (Zhai Xing's father) 's home and as "a mistress" of Ma Ying.

You remember on episode 1 ? When in the first part the story began, Chu Kui massacred at the palace, then one part, a lady looks like Zhai Xing but was pregnant and felt on the ground, she thought she was about to be kill, but the general told her not to be afraid, he's there to help her to escape.

That general was Ma Ying (Zhai Xing's adoptive father) and that pregnant lady was princess Ping Yang (Zhai Xing's biological mother), a real princess of the previous Tang dynasty.

That's why Zhai Xing father before he was murdered by Bo Wang's night furies, he didn't told Zhai Xing about her true identity. Even Zhai Xing's step mother and brother, they too didn't know who is Zhai Xing's real identity. Her step mother and brother dislike her alot in the beginning was, thinking she was the daughter of the mistress general Ma Ying brought back.

They didn't know the pregnant lady general Ma Ying brought back to Ma's home was princess Ping Yang, a royalty, but kept as a mistress of general Ma Ying. After she gave birth to Zhai Xing, and came to Zhai Xing teenage time, princess Ping Yang passed away.

That's why she was sad and no friends and not been loved by her step mother and brother, her adoptive father Ma Ying always had to be away from home cuz he was the general commander of Ma's troops. But he loved her preciously.

Becuz young Zhai Xing just lost her mother, she went to the wolf's mountain to seek for flower species (Nue Luo Hua), was her mother's favorite flower, then she stumbled to the wolf guy and found he was sick / ill at then. So at the cave, she fed him with some herbal and peppermint water and healed him. Since then onwards, she befriended the wolf guy, and had many pure happiness moments with him. There was then the bond and love was build between they both.

So, back to at Khithan, the maid was send out by emperor of Jing to help Zhai Xing, but she had to pretend to be the real princess Ping Yang to gain the king of Khithan's trust. So the contract / plan of Bo Wang to borrow troops from king of Khithan will be spoiled / failed.

But Bo Wang was a little smart, he noticed all Zhai Xing's plans and able to decrypted all.
First they will encounter eclipse, and for Khithan's clan, they worship the sun god, (something like the ancient Greek their Apolo the god of sun), so when eclipse happened, it's a symbol of misfortune. Bo Wang heard the howling of wolfs and he understood wolf's language. From the howling, he gotto know the eclipse will be a short one. So in order to pretend he has the abilities like a God of War, he shot an arrow to the eclipse and the eclipse is over. The Khithan's clan adored him like a true War God. Then later when the maid pretends to be princess Ping Yang of previous Tang dynasty appeared, Bo Wang also decrypted she is a fake.

Overall, all the plans Zhai Xing prepared was decrypted by Bo Wang and seems like Bo Wang is about to win all, (oh you should see how arrogance is Bo Wang's look), and is so angry to see Bo Wang humiliated Zhai Xing over and over again at Khithan. Even princess Bao Na also can't do much to help Zhai Xing but only can extend some protections for her.

But all seems about to loose, the really intelligent one was Ji Chong. He had discovered the 1 thing from Zhai Xing that can proof she is indeed the royal heritage, is the golden bell Zhai Xing always wore. The golden bell is the key of mysteries to proof Zhai Xing's identity.

That's when this part on episode 32, Bo Wang's facial expression looked like shit and stunt and angered and regretted and shocked as well ... LOL !! For once he finally had wronged and loose and return back to Yang dynasty with emthy handed, failed to borrow troops from Khithan, plus with 4th prince's injury and the discovery of Zhai Xing's royal heritage, oh !! Chu Kui was jumping like clown on fire.

Bo Wang was then send to whipped as punishment.

That's good, enjoy the show.

I don't watch from online websites. I bought DVD to watch. Cuz DVD's film quality is more clear and sharp, better sound effects and with multi subtitles. I'm truly sorry, I really don't know where or which website can watch this movie with sub titles ... My apologies.

No, Chu Kui didn't back off, but instead got more angrier and jumping. Cuz Zhai Xing chose to stayed with Jing emperor and Jing troops plus her Ma troops joining Jing troops, even more stronger force and more amount than Bo troops (Chu Kui / Yang empire's troops).

Certainly, the emperor doesn't want to give up his throne.

So the trip to Khithan to borrow troops failed by Bo Wang, the emperor ordered Yao Ji to whipped him as punishment.

At the same time, it was an opportunity Yao Ji can take the chance to poison the emperor. Cuz eldest prince was dead, 2nd prince was send to guard the tomb as a slave and as punishment, 3rd prince Bo Wang was just got whipped and injured. 4th prince had became brain dead and paralyzed. So no one is smart or sensitive enough to detect Yao Ji's plan to poison the emperor.

That's how the emperor slowly been poisoned till he got blinded.

Then Bo Wang was given a chance to replaced his failure, he was send out with his troops to battle with Jing's troops.

But Bo Wang's foolish plan was, seeking suicide at the battlefield letting the Jing's troops to shoot thousands of arrows to kill him.

Eventually Zhai Xing noticed something not quite right about him, so she dashed out with the Jing's troops to fight against with Bo troops (Bo Wang's troops). At the end of the fights, Bo troops loosed, Jing won.

Again, returning to Yang empire, Bo Wang was sentenced to slave cuz again he failed his mission again.

Then Chu Kui realized he had no more prince to used. So the eunuch Zhang Jing (eunuch for Chu Kui) suggest perhaps should release 2nd prince and let him return to serve him on official duties.

But Chu Kui never expected that, 2nd prince will take this opportunity to revenge him as in murder him and gets the throne, as Chu Kui was already blind. At the same time, can held 4th prince as hostage.

Maybe you're right, but I respect your point of view.

For myself, I don't feel and see Bo Wang really 100% love Zhai Xing as much as Ji Chong does. Just like you mentioned, perhaps is Bo Wang's complexity of characters.

Oh, 4th prince, he was a little upset about what happened to his Zhai Xing "sister" ( the way he addressed her) and his 3rd brother Bo Wang when he finds out.

But he isn't a fool, he was more on suspecting his so called "beloved" emperor father's scams and motives.

That's where (soon) at episode 30, he followed Bo Wang to Khithan's territory, to negotiate and borrow troops from king of Khithan. But the negotiation wasn't easy, cuz princess Bao Na knew everything had happened to Zhai Xing and how Bo Wang treated her. As her best friend, Bao Na was very much against his brother king of Khithan on agreeing to borrow troops to support Yang empire (Chu Kui) to fight against Jing empire where Zhai Xing and Ji Chong is at.

Even at Khithan, Bo Wang still insulted Zhai Xing and trying to framed her.

It makes the king of Khithan damp headache, borrow or not to borrow his troops.

Zhai Xing and Ji Chong also went to Khithan's territory to stopped or rather spoil Bo Wang's plan to borrow troops.

Until at one point, Bo Wang insulted Zhai Xing so badly, and challenged her dare not kill him or had no guts to kill him.

So, out of anger, Zhai Xing picked up a bowl and arrow, supposed to shoot at Bo Wang as he walks away after he insulted Zhai Xing.

Then out of sudden, 4th prince just rush out and the arrow shot at 4th prince. He was injured and went into a short coma.

This part really gets Bo Wang and Chu Kui angered.

At the end of the trip to Khithan, Bo Wang's mission to borrow troops from Khithan failed with 4th prince got injured.

Later, 4th prince took the opportunity as he just woke up from a short coma, pretending from his injury, he had turned to became a "brain dead" and paralyzed person.

In actual, he was just pretending cuz he needs to finds out the true motives of his father (Chu Kui)'s motives.

He did found out later, and threatened his father to stop all the evil plans. But one thing he under estimated was, he didn't prepared enough of loyal guards to protect him, but just depending on a few eunuchs.
So, at the end he was easily been taken down by his evil father and send to be grounded at his home.

Maybe. But never mind, I'll rewatch it all over again 2nd time to get the missed out details clear. Coz when first time watching, I was "chasing" episodes over episodes too fast to know the whole story. That's how I finished all 49 episodes in 3 days. But fortunately, I'm watching this drama by DVD. I can rewatch all over again.

I suspect it happend way back earlier.

Somewhere around episode 20 - 24, that part where the evil emperor Chu Kui released Yao Ji out from the prison bird cage, and ordered her to cure Zhai Xing's legs from previous old injuries.

Yao Ji told Zhai Xing to soak her both legs in a tub of herbal medicine, and suddenly Zhai Xing felt something is moving around her legs, then next she saw it and screamed. But it didn't showed what the hell was in the tub of the herbal medicine.

Becuz of this, it could be Yao Ji was slowly poisoning or poisoned Zhai Xing with slow type of poison thru healing her legs.
