Xiao Man is like this factory: old, wounded, unable to keep up with the modern world, but someone who still possesses a 'soul.' He is the most honorable character in the story. Xiaodan and Xia Lei, on the other hand, are two people who left that factory and adapted to the city, but left their innocence behind in those ruins.
In my opinion, the story will end with Xiao Man and Chunchun being together, because both characters belong to the same world. As for Xia Lei, he will likely end up with either Xiaodan or Meng Ge. Personally, I think ending up with Meng Ge would be far more honorable than being with the lover of someone you call a 'brother.'
I believe Xiaodan is one of the most selfish characters in the story. She didn't act out of a 'let him survive without me rather than be happy with me' mindset. That was just a mask. The fundamental reason she ended the relationship was simply 'to escape her own guilty conscience.' When she told Xiao Man to 'catch up to me,' she actually meant 'rise to my class, my status.' This was not a request born of pure love; it was an ultimatum.
