It is supposed to represent the Masculine and feminine but not in a sexual type of way. It's used to worship Lord Shiva and is highly respected in Hinduism. We offer our offerings to Shivaji by pouring it down the lingam.

The Lingam and the Yoni together form the "Shivalingam", the symbol of Shiva-Shakti (The lingam represents the Masculine Shiva energy abd Yoni represents the Feminine Shakti energy) and it's used to worship Lord Shiva. Thara's stone on the other hand looks like a purely aesthetic stone
