On Ben X Jim Oct 23, 2020
Title Ben X Jim
In Re: Wifey as an Endearment; Non-inclusivity

There are considerable number of persons who are triggered with Jim calling Ben “Wifey” arguing it is proper that the series better use gender neutral term i.e Asawa or husband instead. That seems persuasive if Ben does not consent to that endearment. But it is an invalid imposition when the character of Ben allows to be addressed as Wifey.

There is a difference between gender identity and gender expression. Do not be confused with the two. Ben is subtle effem gay. If he is ok with Jim addressing him as wifey (or say a term that society has constructed to be masculine) there should be no problem because that is his gender expression not necessarily his gender identity.

Why are we imposing an alleged politically correct endearment? That is a pretext to streotyping. Should a specific endearment be exclusive to one gender identity? Consent is everything. So long as it is assented there should be no problem at all.

We hate to be stereotyped but we are unconsciously practicing the same. The queer community in PH need to learn this unvisited stain in our community which is apparently disguised in political correctness. Because guess what those who imposed how a person should act has not internalized the real tenent of SOGIE and that is no stereotyping at all cost. The SOGIE is just to ground the identity, expression, orientation in existing objective reality. But it is no intended to do stereotyping by categorizing gays and nonbinaries with a correct classification and how that classification should act to fit in to the definition.

Of course this is assuming that Ben allows Jim to address him as Wifey since in the scene he has no opportunity to confront Jim. Let us see the succeeding episodes will Ben expressly oks with Wifey or not.

Some says, the series is slow pacing. But I disagree. The context of the series is national TV. It is wider in scope as to narrative. All of the POVs of characters shall be considered, not just the leads. I am satisfied because the series is toned properly and the climate of the series is shown properly in episode 1.

Title Gameboys Spoiler
In the finale episode, Cai's mother is the middle ground of social realism and idealism. She could have easily allow Cai to be left in metro. But the social context and reality would not allow that. Hence, the storyline is so compactful and solid. The team is not persuaded by the clamor of happy ending that is not compelling.
